DENVER (AP) -- Dish Network Corp. says it plans to close about 300 Blockbuster stores across the country, losing about 3,000 employees.

Company spokesman John Hall told The Denver Post (http://bit.ly/11MpV0v ) on Monday that the closures will leave about 500 Blockbuster locations in the U.S. Blockbuster is owned by Dish Network.

Dish Network last year also shuttered about 500 underperforming Blockbuster locations. Hall says the stores that will be closed in coming weeks are either underperforming or nearing the end of their leases.

He says the 3,000 employees were informed about the latest closures on Friday. The store locations have not been announced.

Colorado-based Dish Network in March 2011 bought the then-bankrupt video rental chain for $320 million. It plans to move Blockbusters' headquarters from Texas to Colorado's Douglas County.

Like we didn't see that coming a mile away. Why rent when you can stream? The few times I do rent it's from Redbox. Nice and easy.

Dish has blockbuster @ home on their receivers or the HD VIP's. They are really anal at their techs about connecting IP or "Broadband" that from the guys that I talked to that install say they are near the point of quitting cause they are hitting them with pay drops cause they can't hit certain percentages. I don't see why Dish just doesn't wise up and accept that not everyone has internet or wants their receivers connected online so Dish can spy on them and what they watch cause that is exactly what it does.

I'd love to see Blockbuster die and Dish stop pushing it on people along with no longer trying to squeeze horrible fee's for pay per views when its not worth it, cheaper to do netflix and you still never leave the house.
