Okay, question:

We got two computers that run 32-bit Windows: we upgraded one of them to 8, and made the install media with the Upgrade Assistant. Now, to speed things up for my other computer, I don't want to have to re-download everything, so I was planning on switching over to the installer from the DVD after the product key is ordered.

The DVD you get through the Upgrade Assistant doesn't already have the product key embedded, right?

Nope, installers do not come with the keys embedded.

You could set up a VM environment to test the scenario out to be sure. Just don't let it automatically activate.
