Need to purchase a new TV

Recommended Posts

My wife and I need to update our current TV which is a 27" tube, on it's way out. We for certain want a flat screen, but I really do not know anything about these new TV's on the market. My wife found A Viso 42" Class LCD 1080 from wal-mart. Is this a good option? I would really prefer to purchase TV's from someone other than wal-mart, but they seem to have the better prices. Please give me advise as brand/etc. Thanks in advance!

Plenty of options out there.. but you should plan it out first.

1 - set your budget

2 - choose between LCD/LED vs Plasma

3 - size TV, is 42 enough? How big is the room? How far do you sit?

4 - Brand, Im sure other Vizio owners wont agree with me here but Vizio is low on my options for TV purchases... Sony, Samsung, Panasonic are your top 3.

Also, that TV you linked comes with a low end home theater in a box. So I would also guess that TV is of low quality. My suggestion would be to head over to Walmart/Best Buy to research what looks good to you. Write down model #s and then go home and read reviews on quality, value, etc. I probably researched a good 6 months before shelling out $1800 on a new TV

Vizio makes pretty good kit. I don't know how it compares to the better brands out there, but I wouldn't argue with it.

Plamsa 1080Ps are $$$ last I checked so that isn't even an option.

I got a nice 59 inch Samsung Plasma 3D 1080p set with 2 pair of glasses a year ago for $999, I am pretty sure LED's are higher cost then plasma in the same size class.
