Check out this neat email I received:

Hello all,

As we fully embrace mobile and new technology directions for our products, I am pleased to announce that Brendan Eich will be expanding his role as CTO to include both strategy and directly managing the engineering teams.

As most of you already know, Brendan was a founder of Mozilla and has been the technical leader of the project since that time. He also invented Javascript and has been a staunch advocate and champion for the Open Web. Most recently, he co-founded the B2G project and has been actively leading both the technical strategy and expanding our business relationships in the mobile industry. In his new role, Brendan will be even more deeply involved in the day-to-day operations of building and delivering great products and enabling platforms.

Separately, -snip-

Please join me in congratulating Brendan, and thanking Damon for his tireless efforts. We wish him the best in his next adventure.

This is an incredibly exciting time in Mozilla's history and we believe we have the right team in place to deliver on our commitments. More can be found on Brendan's blog or in some early press coverage.

Ack I missed this other email! Here's more real information about Firefox OS itself:

Hi Mozillians,

We continue to make great progress with Firefox OS and want to share some exciting updates.

* On Tuesday, January 15th, the Firefox OS 1.0 release-blocking bug count hit zero, and QA signed off on the resulting build. Work has already begun on the subsequent releases and next version of the OS. Read more in Andreas' blog post and we'll share more soon on how to get involved: https://blog.mozilla...en-engineering/

* The developer engagement team has been working to help get web developers and app developers working on Firefox OS. We kicked off our Firefox OS App Days last weekend in Mountain View and Jakarta and have a series of 20+ world wide events happening this coming weekend. This has been an extensive team effort with Mozilla Reps organizing these events. Take a look at some of the photos:

* Another important milestone for developers is access to hardware. Yesterday, in conjunction with Geeksphone and Telefonica, we announced a Firefox OS Developer Preview device. It will be sold to developers worldwide from Geeksphone's website starting in early February so that they can try out their apps on actual hardware. It's also Firefox orange so that they can show it off! :) We are not encouraging users to buy this phone - it is aimed at developers.

For more info, please read our Hacks post (https://hacks.mozilla.org/2013/01/announcing-the-firefox-os-developer-preview-phone) and check out Geeksphone's website, http://geeksphone.com.

Thanks to everyone's awesome work on Firefox OS and all the effort that went into the recent code complete deadline as well as all the work put into our partnerships, tools and outreach.

Cheers,

Andreas Gal (Vice President, Mobile Engineering), Stormy Peters (Developer Engagement), Dietrich Ayala (Firefox OS Engineering) and William Reynolds (Community Engagement)

This gives you direct information on purchasing the phone itself. I'm pretty sure this hasn't made it to Neowin at all yet, so enjoy!

This has been going on for months now.

B2G is a short name for Boot 2 Gecko.. just fyi

Lol you don't think I know that? This is from the Mozillians emailing list, which basically offers news for employees within the organization. This is their website for example: https://mozillians.org/en-US/
