Steam Issue Again

Recommended Posts

I have New Vegas, been playing it fine. I closed it out earlier and now when I try to launch it, Steam decides it's not there anymore and is trying to re-download it. Any help would be great. Thanx.

Best I can do is wait for it to 're-download' and see what happens, if you find there are multiple copies of the folder in your SteamGames directory, then remove the oldest copy.

Seen similar when it starts to convert a game to a "more efficient format" then times out on talking to the mirror for extra files. You at least get a prompt or two for that though

Steam is a little bit unpredictable when it comes to game updates and file integrity. I've had games randomly need to download upwards of 4GB for no apparent reason (i.e. there is no update listed and it was working fine just a moment before). The new file format changed hasn't helped either.

My advice is to check the forums for known issues with an update. If not then you're probably just going to have to wait for it to redownload.

Thanx theyarecomingforyou and everyone. Yeah, I'm just waiting for it to reinstall. However, there is now 2 folders of New Vegas. So will just delete the oldest one and start from the newest.

It usually is the developer updating the game without proper patch notes, sometimes it's really nothing but prep work for DLC or whatever though.

The new file format has absolutely helped though. I can't even tell you how much a failure the Witcher 2 launch which prompted the new file format in the first place was.

ugh

Yeah. Even though a tiny amount of data was being changed the entire file had to be redownloaded, which was an issue when some of the files were nearly 10GB. It was compounded by the fact that?due to the way the game was uncompressed after being downloaded?verifying the game cache would cause Steam to redownload most of the game. Once all games are moved over to the new file format there shouldn't be any need for substantial portions of games to be redownloaded, as only the changed content it downloaded. In the meantime it's a bit of a mess.

again I say

ugh

Fortunately most things have been changed over now. I think they updated the newer format once or twice as well, but I couldn't say.
