Well, looks like very soon the people of Antiga will find that their Internet doesn't work any more due to sudden and random failure of their undersea cable.

I take that not paying the copyright holders doesn't actually imply that the download portal will offer all that stuff for free... which would make me wonder why would anyone put his money there instead of on other, more reliable providers (eg. netflix).

It's in the article. Basically the US acted illegally with regards to Antigua's gambling websites, resulting in billions of dollars in lost income. Antigua appealed to the WTO and sought compensation by suspending US copyrights, which has now been approved.

No, i realise why antigua is doing this, i don't understand why the WTO approved antigua to do this.

It's simply a way to address the injustice, as the US acted illegally and deprived the economy of Antigua of billions of dollars.

but this 'retaliation' probably makes no dent to U.S. economic compared to letting Antigua gambling sites operates in U.S.
as most U.S. IP already pirated elsewhere.

This however made U.S copyright laws less enforceable
if the accused could 'procure' evident that they got the items from Antigua.
