sounds like a possible bad nic card to me or possibly a nic card that is going to sleep. Disable power save features on the nic, if it continues try a different nic. you can also try a different port on the router to see if it is a port issue.

My Ethernet is built into my ASUS mobo.

Maybe try the one that is built into your motherboard.

Update drivers also.

Look in device manager for conflicts.

Only problem I had recently with my Ethernet was, kept waking up sleep.

That was easy to fix.

Maybe keep the settings as shown below.

if it was working fine 3 weeks ago, what would the driver have to do with it? In all my years working with computers I can not recall an instance where the driver just stopped working correctly.

Was any software installed that might have made changes to the driver or networking since you used it 3 weeks ago. Say windows update upgrading the driver, security software update or change (firewall/antivirus suite, etc)

Not saying driver could not have become corrupt or anything - but normally it just wouldn't work if that was the case. Not be intermittent.. As stated already I would look to the nic itself, or maybe even the port on the router - and sure cable might be loose or gone bad?

Do you have anything in the event logs to work with? Are you loosing lights on the nic or router when it happens or could it just be loss of dhcp lease? What do you do to get it to work again if anything? Are you do you know its disconnecting? Does OS popped up a screen and say nic disconnected, or does windows just tell you no internet access? What exactly happens?
