R1pper
i'm the proud owner of lumia 920, but also out of idea's on how to keep my lumia 920 "alive". for couple of times, after a decent charge, i check the phone, and go to bed. and in the morning, every 3 days, it's black, and i have to soft-reset it, and ffs i'm tired of it. yesterday i decided to reset the phone, and i did, did a little backup, and started fresh, and no apps being installed, and still, this morning had to reset again. i had problem with the reception, but after i tested and change settings, i not get fullblast on the reception bar, it's my provider fault, not the OS or the phone itself. my device seems to come from vodafone, sim free. and yes i have the portico update, and i really hope a major update is on the way, soon. the OS is maybe top of the line in terms of tech capabilities, but lot's of things needs to be polished\added. yesterday i hold SG3, a very good device, but ANDROID seems a bit messy compared to wp8, still it's much more mature, and has endless apps, but i just can't give up the UI experience and move to ANDROID. if someone knows about a solid solution, please, share. all best to all neowin members. Liaqat_ali
I've got a Black Lumia 920 as well which is an absolutely amazing phone but the lack of top applications on iOS and Android Markets, was really bothering me. So till the time WP8 platform catches up with the apps I have purchased a Chinese 5 inch Phablet as well for about USD 150, which serves as a brilliant secondary and actually third phone as well since its dual sim and looks just like a Samsung Note II. And concerning ur problem with the lumia, i think u should consult Nokia and probably get it exchanged or something.

George P Global Moderator Posted January 31, 2013 Global Moderator Share Posted January 31, 2013 Yeah, I think you need to get Nokia to replace it, sounds like some weird hardware issue.
R1pper
nokia support? no i didn't, i searched&found the issue in multiple forums, and they published all kind of steppes nokia support told them to do. so i thought why go through all the waiting and e-mailing for the exact same answers. i wish microsoft\nokia would announce the issue as "top priority", and publish news about the progress of the solution. just to keep people out of the dark, and to let them know they care. saw someone who flashed the device, but im not willing to do so, i'm afraid to kill my phone, indefinitely. ashpowell
I'm not sure how Windows software works on phones, but is it possible to re-flash the software like you can re-flash roms on android? That may fix a problem if it's software wise. Sorry I couldn't help any more than that, never had experience with that particular phone/wp8
mulligan2k
are you using the supplied plug and cable to charge overnight?

Pas
mine was doing that too until one day it wouldn't reset at all. at&t replaced it at no cost. granted, i was outside the 14 day grace period to get a new one in the store and had to wait 3 days until the replacement arrived via usps. the replacement may be a refurbished unit but it has performed much better than the original phone did. Nashy
Mine has random reboots from times to time. But I don't usually have to hard reset the device. I've only ever done that once. Touch wood. I'd certainly be talking to Nokia. Their support is very good, give them a call and they will sort it for you.
R1pper
are you using the supplied plug and cable to charge overnight? yes, but i dont leave it more than 2 hours per charge, certainly not for a whole night, once it get to 100%, i unplug it. ok i will take it to the store to be replaced, hopefully within a week, and i pray it wont happen with the new one, cause even though i love it+wp, it's gonna break me, il go for SG3. guys, thank you for trying to help, wish you all the best. Ungaro
SOLUTION FOUND! You will need the Nokia Software Updater for Retail to flash the latest firmware to your Nokia phone. There are many sites advertising this software but all of them that I found require registration and/or downloading of additional software. You can download the working retail version 2.0.6 here: http://jkorondy.com/Lumia920 -- without registration and without any additional garbage software. It will update itself to 3.0.4 (or the most current version). I have run it on Windows 8 and Windows 7, connected to my unlocked Lumia 920 (RM-821_apac_philippines_388) and it works great. Firmware updated and it hasn't shut down since! :-) Please consider donating to the site owner -- I did because it saved my expensive Lumia 920 phone. articuno1au
It's worth noting that this process can break your automatic update system (i.e. you need to use this tool to update your phone from now one) and can void your warranty. On top of this, this update will erase your phone (factory reset) and can brick it if you don't know what you are doing. In short, use the official update system unless you realllllly know what you are doing.
