I've been needing a new phone for a while. My current verizon plan is $94 a month, unlimited everything but voice. Becomes pretty expensive over time.

I've been wanting to jump ship, and goto straight talk, due to their $45 plans, which would save me over half the price i was paying with verizon, while STILL using the verizon towers.

I was wanting to get a Nexus 4, but it uses GSM, and i have crap GMS signal here, my boss uses t-mobile, which i think uses GSM and he gets and okay signal out here, but its spotty. at&t has nothing, but Verizon seems to work okay, although i receive a crappy signal at work, but we have wifi there so its fine.

Also i want to use my phone as a media player so i don't have to carry around another device such as an ipod. The nexus 4 is limited to 16gb, which isnt enough.

So i needed to stick to CDMA.

I just found out today (while researching phones) that straight talk recently started selling the Iphone 5 for their network, and it used CDMA, so after i saw that i was very interested.

I debated it and went over it for 5 hours this morning, while trying to find a decent other phone, and finally decided to just click buy, but instantly after i clicked the purchase button i had that scary feeling most of us get after we buy stuff. Like "was that a good idea"?

So no matter what now, Monday i'll receive the Iphone 5, I got the 32gb version so i'd have enough for music. But damn, the total price was $815! Way too much for a phone, but then again, buying a phone such as the galaxy s3 unlocked without a contract would've been only a hundred or so less, and then it doesnt use the right network for my area so being able to use it would be very spotty.

I had an Iphone 4 on verizon, and i loved it. The only thing i really hate about the Iphone and apple is being locked down. Not being able to easily access files and control whats on my phone, but meh this isnt that big of a thing.

I actually was looking into buying a new ipod touch so maybe this saves me more money over all.

I'm selling my current verizon phone for $100 to someone, so that knocks off another $100.

But i still feel a bit foolish. Way to much to spend on a phone, but then again it's more than just a phone anymore.
At least each month i'll have more money than i would if i continue on my verizon plan.

There have been reports and articles about how the straight talk $45 unlimited plan isnt actually limited, and they start throttling you after 2gb or 8gb in some cases, but im not too sure how legit these are. I know at&t and other companies can't be too happy about someone offers their top phones for half the monthly price. So they could be paying for some of these articles, who knows. But straight talk themselves said they only throttle those abused the service such as using it as a hot spot, and tethering. So i should be fine with all that.

Still feel bad, ha but it really seems like the phone was my best option for where i live, and for what I want to use it for. plus its damn sexy.

Oh god. I have over 400GB of music in my library and I'm using about 4-5% of my phones space for music.

Unless you're thinking of carrying around 1080i quality videos with you 16gigs is enough.

It is a lot up front considering you are paying full price for the phone. But you are not under any contract...and since it is paid outright and straight talk uses either vzw or sprint for voice and data so you should be able to get it unlocked. 32gb isnt even enough for me. I love music Nothing in life i like more.
but couldn't see myself paying for the 64gb price.

btw, im sure the nexus 4 would only of allowed probably 10gb of usable space after the system files and such.

BTW, i think i created this topic so people would reassure me that im not a fool and the iphone 5 is awesome. lol

I mentioned some of that in my original post. It seems that alot of that is inaccurate. STraight talk says they only throttle if you abuse such as streaming and tethering.
In my research i found many cases of people that been with straight talk unlimited for a while and havent had a single problem. But finding an actual legit person that has is very rare.

I think i'll be okay. Hoping so at least.

Everywhere i go (home, work, club, even mcdonalds) now has wifi so the data thing isnt too big of a problem.
Currently i pay $94 for unlimited data, and 600voice minutes, now i'll have unlimited voice which is great.

Yikes, that's a lot of money! I love music too, but I don't let a phone's capacity let it be the deciding factor. I prefer 32 GB of capacity, but 16 GB is alright. Just put your music on the cloud, and it won't be a problem!

That's why I went with unlimited data. THen I can use my Xbox music pass (zune pass) on my WP8 and just stream as much as I want without using any space on my phone.

I thought of that, but i don't like the thought of not being able to listen to my music out here if i have a crappy quality ,or songs taking awhile to load due to it.
I like the idea of just being able to have the actual songs with me.

If i lived in a big city where i didn't have any problems with connection and such, the cloud would be nice.

16gb is enough... if not, use some streaming since you have unlimited data and wifi... you just got ripped off imho

@OP about buying gs3 unlocked comment. you do realize you don't have to buy fully unlocked phones for straight talk right? you can buy phones from AT&T off contract and still use them on straight talk without unlocking them. meaning you would have only had to actually paid $549 for an S3 http://www.att.com/s...bid=E1DZgWGj6uP

on the bright side for you though, you should be able to jailbreak the iphone 5 soon

i bet you wont listen to 10gb of music (the rest of the space should be wasted with other data)... i have a huge library (more than 500gb) of songs and i dont listen to them all.. i just exchange some when i want to hear them..

or you could get an ipod.

yeah but as i said, GSM doesn't work too great in my area. i like to stick with CDMA (verizon).

Verizon phones seem harder to flash to other carriers such as straight talk. Isn't as easy as switching sim cards.

While it's probably impossible to listen to all the songs every hour every day, i do listen to almost all of them, and i like putting the player on random/shuffle and being able to listen all day without hearing the same song twice.

And also i hate having a song stuck in my head, and not having it on my device to listen to when im wanting to.

i refuse to give up song space, ha and i suppose im payin the price for it.

so u complain that u hav paid too much 4 the iphone 5 still keeping it..... id rather send it back and go for the htc droid dna or meizu mx2. and use the rest of your money for something else....

There's a CDMA version of the Samsung Galaxy S3 with a microSD slot. You should have bought the 16 GB version with a 32 GB microSD card.

Not really complaining, im saying im stupid, but i still want it.
I suspect those phones wouldn't work on straight talk, or other cheaper carriers. My current phone works great, and plays music just fine, but costs too much monthly.

I didnt see the CDMA version, i did look up the galaxy s3 this morning though, i've been wanting that phone for a long time now.

Straight talk doesn't work with CDMA though. it says that in a few places on the site
sure the iPhone supports CDMA but the straight talk network does not
