Speed control for other users

Recommended Posts

Hey All Good Morning.

I'm a new user guys. Need some help. Hope it could be fixed here.

I'm using 8 Mb/s internet speed it has been shared with 4 guys including me.

Want to distribute the speed for each ip or to allocate the speed limit to every one. I can understand some one is using some application to take all the speed? other users are complaining that internet speed is bad. When i change password speed is good.

I'm using belkin wireless router.

Is there any other application which could help me on this? or any mode I want to control this.

Help me guys.

Many thanks.

Gifton.

You mention change the password, so your all using wireless?

Yeah I don't know any way to ratelimit by IP over wireless.. Wireless is shared bandwidth - only 1 client can be talking at a time actually. Now if you were all wired, then sue you could get a simple switch that allows rate limiting.

Wireless LAN Per-User Rate Limiting Solution

So a quick google found this

How do I configure Bandwidth Control / IP-QoS on TP-LINK wireless router

So seems you can do it over wireless, how well it works or if it even does not sure - but I doubt your belkin supports such feature.

So to your solution, grab a new wireless router that supports it.. And give it a go.

Limiting the download speed for each user will help but it may not get rid of the problem entirely. If someone is uploading something at max speed, then it will slow things down for everyone. This usually happens when someone leaves a torrent running after it has completed.

the newer routers will support what applications and what computers get priority over everything else.

edit: looks like budman researched it a bit and found one.
