Looking into buying a new ultrabook/tablet/hybrid

Recommended Posts

I'm in the market for a new laptop/tablet/hybrid.

I live on a tiny island of the cost of Honduras so checking out devices in the store is kinda hard :)

In general it is for light use, browsing with 8 tabs open, some very light gaming (metro games), messaging,...

Yet sometimes when I feel bored I like to pick up some IT books and look into programming again (mainly MS related)

I want it to be fairly light, have touch, but also a good keyboard option and also some decent battery life.

Looking at this I seem to have 2 options If I want to buy right now.

I could look into a Clovertrail hybrid, which would be fine for most of what I do minus the slightly more heavy lifting.

Could I just use a remote desktop session into my current laptop and do the programming that way?

Or I could buy a more powerful machine which would cover all my needs but I give up on battery life.

I was eyeballing the Lenovo Yoga, that seems to be all round decent ultrabook.

My other option is to wait until they start releasing new devices with the newer iCore processors that use less power, or wait even longer for the newer Haswell generation. Is there any news on when either one of these processors is going to be released?

Any advice would be welcome

Since the Surface probably isn't available to you, I'd go with the Yoga :) I've only played with one but when I did I was very impressed, it's a nice piece of hardware.

Everything is available to me :)

I can order from the US and get it shipped

I'm just wondering if I should wait a couple more months or not?

I don't need it right now, it would be just nice to have :)

Have you looked at the XPS 12? I didn't like the Yoga because the keyboard is exposed when you use it in tablet mode. I decided on the XPS 12 because of the 1080p display and I liked the way it flips into a tablet.

I haven't checked that one out yet, I'll have a look at that one

What I really would like to find out in this thread is when pc's will arrive with then new Ivy Bridge processors en when the Haswell processors are supposed to be arriving

Are they going to be worth the wait? Last I read was that haswell pc's will arrive late June. Is this info still correct?

That's why i'm wondering when they are going to start releasing pc's with those newer Ivy Bridge processors and if it's worth waiting for Haswell.

But nobody seems to know when this will be

thing is I wanna go on a trip soon and I want a good device... but I feel if I buy one now and a better one comes out later that's much more awesome I would feel bad... I wish the companies would be more clear on this stuff :(

Better hardware is always on the way. You'll be waiting forever for the next best thing :p

I just want a yogapad that has better screen and battery life and I would be happy. :(

I would love a surface pro but the thing is it's overpriced for not having a keyboard :(
