Berserk87 Posted February 18, 2013 Share Posted February 18, 2013 I've tried at least 5 different ways to convert or play mkv on the xbox with subtitles and I can't get it to work. more recently i've installed a couple codecs and filters to my computer so that I can play mkv in windows media center with subtitles. the problem with that is that windows media center doesnt show the subtitles even though my computer does, and I can't seem to get them display. The other things i've tried are converting it to a different format and hard sub the subtitles. The converters im using take a really long time and either show special characters mixed in with the subtitles, or misses subtitle lines every now and then. Is there an easy way to do this? is there a program that can quick and easy hard sub my video into something the xbox can play? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Honestly the best and easiest thing for you to do is to buy one of those Android HDMI dongles which can be had for around $50 lately. I half agree, after years of using my xbox as a media extender, I finally gave up on it, it's just not very good at it, as for the Android based media players, I tried a few and found those lacking Your best bet is an actual media player, right now I use an AIOS(Linux based), which is alright, it'll play anything you throw at it, but I find the interface clunky, there are a few other custom firmwares out there xtreamer being one, but it too has it's own problems. I like to tinker and customize things, so I think my next project would be to use either a Raspberry Pi or a Zotac zbox and set it up as a media player, if you do also that is a possibility for you But otherwise, I think your best bet is to get an actual media player, ........ Or you could use handbrake to hardcode the subs into the video streams, but really, who wants to do that.(maybe you). Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Mine died on me recently. I do have a raspberry pi on its way to me as well. while ill probably setup with xbmc. but that doesnt help me right now.
