Sony to profit after five-year slump


Sony is on track to return to profit for the first time in five years, as brutal restructuring and a weak yen help to slash the company’s formerly record losses.
The electronics company announced sharply lower net losses of 10.7 billion yen (£72.6 million) in the final three months of last year, compared with a Y158 billion loss a year earlier.
The company lost Y50.9 billion over the nine months to December 31, a 75 per cent improvement on the same period a year earlier, when it lost Y201.4 billion.

Shame it's behind the pay wall, but if this is true it's good for Sony as a whole, since it appears that the Xperia line are doing well. Maybe this will allow for a bit more product expansion?

So someone hacked Sony's Playstation and Sony is being fined for that.

That was back a few years ago (whenever it was). It's the first part of the story overview but the rest can't be read unless you pay up :(

I believe it was because of their storing peoples personal details in plain text etc.

And what's wrong with that? If companies don't take adequate steps to protect customers' private information then they should be held accountable, with fines if appropriate.

Good for Sony. Maybe the PS4 will be such a hit it will make their profits soar.
