Are you guys even interested in the new consoles?

Neither will current or next gen consoles. :/

But you will be able to play EVERY game for the lifetime of a console at 30-60FPS, you can't do that on a PC. That GPU will be out of date within 2-3 years, unless you like playing games in 10 fps.

Consoles don't exactly run at Ultra settings either you know... and I said before, the savings you make from buying games for cheaper on PC can be put towards any additional costs for upgrades, it works out in the long run. Cost is not a good argument to buy a console over a PC in my opinion, your enjoyment of the platform and wanting to be more social in front of a TV however... I could understand.

Games aren't that much cheaper, ?5~. I never said cost was a good argument to buy one over the other just tired of all this "PC Master Race" elitist crap people like to spout, I have a modest gaming PC and I use consoles as well, there is no way you can run a ?300 pc for 10 years, you are going to have to upgrade the CPU and GPU at least once or twice, OK consoles dont have "ultra" graphics but you can guarantee that it can play ALL games released over its lifetime.

Just like current gen consoles lol.

Let's take some games for example, Battlefield 3 runs like crap on consoles. Try flying a jet, the frame rates are horrible. Flying a helictoper on Gulf of Oman on console is a classic example, frame rates dip to well below 10 in some places.

Then we move onto player count, consoles can't even support more than 30 players in most games because of the limited RAM they offer, there is the exception to one or two exclusives which I'm sure is mostly server side compensating for it all, and even thoughs games looks like crap.

Aliens: Colonal Marines, that game has such bad graphics and even then the console version can't run it at all well. Jagged lines, bad pologons, screen tearing.

The fact is, the only good looking games on consoles are the console exclusive ones, which have been soley developed for that hardware.

You say we have to upgrade our PC's all the time, yes because technology moves forward and so do PC games. Heck current consoles don't even play games at 1080p, everything is up scaled.

Sure, at whatever resolution they pick. You think we'll get 1080p at 60 fps in all games for the next gen? even if my GPU isn't worthy in 2 or 3 years, I can chose to spend the money to make sure that I'm always able to run at x resolution and x fps.

Consoles aren't just GPU limited, they're distribution limited and storage limited, not to mention data transfer limited. Maybe the next generation will be better, but considering 1 of the major manufacturers makes a ton of money overcharging for pathetically sized hard drives already, I highly doubt it.

Yes I know but that doesn't mean you are somehow better than console gamers, you just have more money to waste on a PC, buy one box and you are good for 10 years and you can spend the ?200 you would spend on a GPU or ?150 on a CPU on games.

A graphics card from 4 years ago can still play games coming out today. It's because games are designed for the lowest common denominator, which are the consoles which came out 7 years ago.

I'm excited for the new ones to come out because the new lowest common denominator will no longer be 7 year old consoles and games will FINALLY start looking better again!

A PC isn't just used for gaming though. I'm going to have a good CPU, RAM, etc regardless if I'm gaming or not. I only had to buy a good GPU to play games, and that cost me $300, less than what new consoles cost. $200 GPUs will do for most people if they don't want to play at 1920x1080 on high settings, which the consoles haven't been doing for the past 5 years.

I'm interested but only because it means multiplatform games for PC will no longer be constrained by the horribly dated X360 / PS3 generation. I've always been a PC gamer and they have long offered the better gaming experience if you can afford decent hardware.

you dont need a high end pc for other tasks than gaming. i know there are a lot of people who think its cool to run win7 or win8 with 8x core cpus and 16gb of ram (ofc. they always install the 64 bit ver  ). the point is: if you dont game then all you have with such a spec is wasted money, good heat in your room and a high electricity bill.

I'd like to see a 9600GT that launched in 2008 try and play Crysis 3.

I think it should be able to pull it off at 1024x600 with low quality settings, which is what the current consoles do.

I gave my cousin my old Geforce 8800 GTS a year ago and he is still playing all the new PC games. I bought that card February 1, 2008. He may not be playing them all at 1920x1080 with maxed out settings, but neither are the current consoles and it still looks better than the consoles.

My PC does things other than play games.

It's very dependent on what kind of games you prefer. For example, Skyrim on consoles a) didn't look as good b) had crap load times and c) couldn't be modded. IMO it's silly to want a console to play games like that. Same with real time strategy games, which are basically non-existent for consoles.

It was a budget card at the time, so that's hardly a fair comparison. More importantly, PC gaming has moved on from then - most people have larger monitors with higher resolutions, faster processors, better graphics cards and more memory, so of course games should be designed to take that into account. If Crysis 3 on the PC had the same visual fidelity and framerate as the console version then it would easily run on older hardware but then it wouldn't take advantage of the platform - surprisingly enough PC gamers aren't interest in games running at 720p, with no anti-aliasing, low texture quality and limited to 30fps.

The reality is that PC gaming offers a much better experience and if consoles gamers weren't interested in that then there would be no need for a new generation of consoles.

I disagree with that. When the PS2/Xbox came out my GPU was vastly superior and even when the next generation hit I was able to play those games with relatively high graphics settings that still looked better than the console version. Then I upgraded my video card, mostly to future proof, and here I am a few years later still able to play the latest titles at 1080p with good frame rates at the highest settings. And I don't even have the best, most expensive video card, or a SLI or Crossfire setup. $300-400 will get you a video card that will play the current generation with ease and the next generation better than that generations consoles, at least so far. I probably won't upgrade my video card again until 2014, and even then it will be driven more out of a desire to have the latest tech and probably not so much of a necessity.

Went from Core 2 Duo > Core 2 Quad > Core i5 Nehalem > Core i5 Sandybridge and HD4850 > GTX470 > HD5850 > HD7850 graphics wise and they are only mid range parts. Sure you can buy low to mid range GPU but to be the PC master race you need everything high end to run games at the kind of detail they like to brag about and that is EXPENSIVE.

Except that's NOT what the other individual said. He said PC gaming is expensive, and it's not if I'm still playing comparable games to consoles at similar if not better as it stands. Your implications that I need something over $200 just to be better off than consoles is incredibly inaccurate.

Again, you're trying to fight a stupid argument to begin with. I don't care for elitists by any means either, but the fact that you're letting some overweight dingbats on the internet ruffle your feathers over machines that run video games is rather sad.

Personally, you've well exceeded my budget by two or three times at least so forgive me if I can't sympathize at all with your point regarding what is and isn't "expensive".

I'm looking forward to the new consoles. I game on whatever I can. But since I've reached 30, had my girl move in, and business has picked up... I just can't sit infront of a computer as long as I could.

And as Larry pointed out, it's hard to beat being able to sit on your comfy couch and relax while you listen to awesome 7.1 real surround sound and play a game on a huge screen.

I'm not a graphics ###### like I used to be, and I'm fine with where everything is. So giving me something that is easy to install, configure, and doesn't need a constant upgrade every few years is something I look forward to.

I also can't just sit and much around with my computer for hours on end to get the best performance and such. I want something, most of the time, that I can just put in and play and enjoy, without the hassle or monkey on my back saying, " You can make this better, just do all of this and that."

It's also hard to justify spending so much on a computer when I have more things I could be plopping 1 to 2 grand on :p Because for me to upgrade my frankenstien computer, I'd have to get all new everything. ( I'm still using IDE hdd's )

I am interested in new consoles, I don't see how anyone interested in games & tech couldn't be interested to see these things.

But of course it's the typical thing where "the internet" is always unimpressed & sooooo over everthing before it even happens. It's kind of pathetic.

That's why my PC is hooked up to my 47" TV, and my "desk" is my coffee table with wireless peripherals, including a 360 controller for the games that support it.

Still doesn't cut it. Only games I play on PC are games that a controller wouldn't be good for. LoL and FPS. Can't sit on a couch comfortably, leaning back, and game with a keyboard and mouse. That's why I choose all types of hardware for my gaming. I get to choose from all the games, exclusives and not.

The 9600GT is a DX10 card. Crysis 3 requires a DX11 card. (Finally. Hope to see more games coming out doing this, but doubt they will anytime soon.)

I dunno, I'm pretty comfortable with the back reclined, laying down with the keyboard on my chest and the mouse at my side.

It's not like I am completely opposed to console gaming, either. I still want to get a PS3 "some day." The problem is that I can't justify the cost so that I can play a small handful of exclusives when I have a perfectly good PC already that plays 95% of the games I want to play, easily and with better graphics. If I were still single I'd probably have a bunch of consoles, but with a family to support now consoles are not economical for me and PC gaming has improved leaps and bounds from where it was when I first bought my SNES or PSone. Back then you pretty much had to choose consoles or PCs because you could not get the same games for both. Now the lines are blurred with most games coming out for all available platforms. Even brand loyalty isn't as relevant with most games coming to Microsoft and Sony. Only Nintendo still sets themselves apart with their many exclusive franchises, but as much as I love Zelda and Mario those aren't the games I want to play anymore, at least not enough to buy another console just for those games. If I get another console it'll be Sony that gets my money just so I can play God of War and a few other Playstation exclusives that have drawn my attention more than what's exclusive to the other consoles.
