Are you guys even interested in the new consoles?

I've been a PC gamer for most of my life. Even by that, I still do plan on getting a next gen console. I still enjoy the content that Nintendo pumps out and I look forward to what exclusives Sony has to bring this time around.

I only will buy them if there is a must game to be owned, I bought PS3 only when the bundle of Metal Gear Solid 4 and the playstation 3 was out, if I can use the Playstation 4 as a windows machine, then I will consider it as an small development PC..

Short answer: No

Long answer: No

Computer gaming FTW

Beyond, Final Fantasy, God of War, Gran Turismo, Heavy Rain, Killzone, The Last of Us, Little Big Planet, Metal Gear Solid, Motorstorm, Ni No Kuni, Ratchet and Clank, Resistance, SOCOM, Starhawk, Sly Cooper, Twisted Metal, Uncharted, Warhawk, Wipeout.

Probably forgetting a ton of franchises and those are just PS3 exclusives with a few exceptions that have crossed onto 360.

You can "computer gaming ftw" all you want but until those games come to PC (hint, they never will), I will always play consoles as well as PCs.

They are not that great either.... with what we have on PC is actually far more nicer, if anything I only envy the Tales of... franchises from Namco, MGS is already finished with Metal Gear Solid 4, little big planet is not bad but I like Trine for platformers.

FPS? gosh... there are already a lot, but oh well, we have Crysis 3, that's one hell of a shooter game, still, I don't like FPS. if anything mainstream consoles are gathering all those games enjoyed by the mases... what happens when you have slight likins as the others? Have you ever played Falcom games? (Ys Series specially) have you heard their music? What about of Lunar Silver Star Story? is from PSX but you can play a remake on PSP.

See my point here? the same is happening with Vita, they have very good games that have little fan base (actually, normal fanbase, FPS have gotten the fanbase that was dormant before the PS2 era, casuals if you want to categorize them) mainstream consoles are losing appeal towards serious gaming people, be either on PC or in portable handhelds.

In your opinion they aren't that great, they are still system sellers. They sell millions more than PC titles do. There's no point in being a PC elitist, yes we know PC is great, it has the best graphics, big freaking deal.

I can have that and still have my Uncharted, Gran Turismo, etc...

There may be people that are Elitist about pc gaming, this comes from far long as I can remember, I don't say that because I like console games, but truth is that gaming is becoming more and more unappealing on main stream consoles for the lack of variety and their current focus on what was originally a dormant fanbase with a lot of FPS games going on, not to mention "online multiplayer". In PC you have LAN, a WIDE variety of games (some of them not as great as others but still good enough variety) and cheap hardware (yeah, you don't buy a PC only to play games, you buy it because you want to do more with it, an example of this is my current laptop, I'm able to play battlefield 3 with it as well as crysis 3, medium settings on both games (1080p) and deliver good enough frames per second, mostly around 30, only cost me 600 euro in august 2011... and I can carry it with me wherever I want, nonetheless... the games look better than in their current console versions)

It is pretty alarming to me that the main argument being presented is about how the graphics are so inferior and how the hardware is so outdated.

I hardly am seeing any mention of the most important aspect of what makes video games video games, and that is PLAYING said video games.

Whether I have a keyboard and mouse in front of me with a monitor, or a controller and HDTV, I forget this fact about one minute into actually playing whatever game I am playing.

The best example I can come up with for what I mean, was there really any less of an emotional impact for the console gamer when they were playing Bioshock for the first time and the game revealed "Would You Kindly?" Did the PC gamer really have that much better of an "Holy ****" moment because they were playing the game with a keyboard and mouse and better visuals? I really do not think they did. Perhaps the better visuals helped enhanced that moment .5%, if that, but I really do not think they did. It was still the same experience. Still the same game. Still the same exact moment.

So really, if you are going to hate on consoles, have some actually legitimate reasons for doing so. Better graphics IMHO is not a legit enough reason to say console gaming is inferior. At least say what some people are saying, things like trainers, mod support, more customization, etc.

If your argument revolves solely around the fact PC's have better graphics and that is why consoles suck?

I cannot help but feel you are missing the whole point, and essence, of gaming entirely.

And make no mistake about it, nice graphics are an added bonus. But I do believe they are just that, a bonus. They are not the end all be all. In fact it is extremely hard for me to point at graphics as the end all be all when I know damn well that more often than not if the game I am playing on the PC also has a console counterpart, I am more then likely playing a port of said game.

Well MY argument is not solely about the graphics (of the ps3/360)

There's also AI, interactivity, physics, sound, all those things that keep you from expanding the world because there's no RAM.

The PS4 and up will fix this problem. You could certainly see proper RTSes on there because it has the capabilities. And other game types can have much more intricate world design than the usual 'here's a pathway, get to it' crap we see most of the time.

Technology moved on from the consoles...games did not.

Yes.

Playing console games in front of my HDTV and Polk 5.1 system is MUCH more comfortable and enjoyable than a PC

Even when said games are frequently running at only 20-25fps?

Perhaps for the first few years. After which we'll return right back to where we are now. Where a game with a locked framerate is a true rarity.

And when we have Directx 17 people will still be coding for 9

It's pretty annoying to me we can't have a conversation about consoles without people being obnoxious about PCs. We all know the advantages of the PC. You're more than welcome to make topics in the Computer Gaming forum to discuss them. It's little more than trolling to come into every console-based topic and post "LOLZ consoles R 4 Fagz. PC gayming IZ Da Shyt Y0!"

New console, same old arguements.

Same. Always been a PC gamer. It's where gaming belongs tbh.

Personally,

It's the very last place gaming belongs and no, I am not interested in new consoles in the least!

I suppose you might not be talking about this particular topic, but you're welcome to report them if they're just harassing people.

I'm pretty interested in the upcoming consoles because it's unfortunately became the 'norm' to release pretty ****-poor ports from consoles to PCs and I'm getting fed up with it, hopefully the new consoles will be half decent and the PC ports won't be as bad, of course that'll last a year until the consoles are completely outdated and then the ****-poor conversions will be the norm. again.

Other than that I don't care for consoles

I'm not that excited about the new Xbox. I love my PC and 360s, but I really feel no excitement towards the next generation what so ever, especially with some of the rumours. Saying that though, I'll still get the next Xbox, for Halo and because it's a Microsoft product.

I'm cautiously excited for the new round of consoles. Specifically, the new XBOX. I own both the 360 and PS3. I game on the 360 solely because I'm an achievement wh0re. The PS4 is my media center, since I upgraded the HDD to 1TB and copied many of my movies to it.

However, back on subject. While i'm looking forward to the new consoles, and will almost certainly buy both eventually I'm cautious of the game's business model. I've been hearing rumors of downloaded/streamed games only. Sky high game prices and the inability to rent or play used titles. This might be a show-stopper for me personally, as GameFly currently keeps me playing these days.

But, what I do know for sure is that my TV will need a cr@p-ton more HDMI ports...

I want Gran Turismo 6 on PS4.

Unfortunately, we'll need to wait for the Gran Turismo 6 Demo, then the Gran Turismo 6 Light, then Gran Turismo 6 Light add-ons, then possibly a Gran Turismo 6 directed by J.J.Abrams before getting a full version. ;-)

I have to disagree with that, though in general I would normally agree.

I've been console only for a long while now, so I'm not accustomed to the best the PC has to offer these days, but I've just started playing Crysis 3 on the xbox, in the last few days, and I am continually finding my self thinking 'this looks ****ing awesome'. And that makes me smile.

Waiting for them desparately, one of these would be my 1st console. Had already been putting off a purchase of ps3 ever since I heard there is a new console coming out.

amazing what consoles are capable of though even though they don't get upgraded as fast as PC's
