Electronic Arts has laid off employees in Los Angeles and Montreal, and reportedly shuttered the Visceral Montreal studio.

The publisher refused to specify which studios were being closed down but the rumor, cited by multiple sources, is that the Montreal office of Dead Space studio Visceral Games has been closed entirely.

Dead Space's three games cycle was over, it's their usual strategy

1st game - good, get hype for next game

2nd game - average, lower budget, sell it based on brand recognition from the first game

3rd game - doggydoo, copy paste, add explosions, no budget, short development time, sell it to the people who still believed and now crush all their hopes

shutdown studio

repeat

wonder if bioware will still be around after Dragon Age 3

This is why I literally hate EA. It's the only company I hate. I hope Bioware sticks around, they've still got Mass Effect 4 to release, hopefully they won't be pressured by EA this time around and don't release ME4 early.

You guys realize that sometimes studious just plain suck without help from the publishers, sometimes their first good game is just that, a fluke. And they can't repeat it, maybe because the way the story was made it even can't be repeated as is the case with dead space, though I found the whole game print and the art direction crap myself, but that's besides the point.

EA just happens to be one of tose publishers who expect you to deliver. If you can't deliver, myou get shut down. They are still the publisher responsible for the most good games.

Also most of the complains about DS 2 and 3 is that they are not DS. Wich is stupid anyway, if you want DS play it. The story can't be told again, the game had to evolve.

As I recall Mass Effect 4 won't actually be called 4 other than in spirit. Set in the same universe, but entirely new story and characters, possibly even and entirely new timeline.

Granted Halo4 was still called Halo4 but they kept the main character and it's also a mascot game.

So I expect it to be called Mass Effect: Fancy sub title 1, 2 and 3

wait, Dead Space 2 had a story? I must've missed it.

It was fairly obvious Dead Space went low budget to avoid being cancelled altogether when they weren't even sure they'd be releasing a PC version.

2 must've picked up on sales but I honestly can't be arsed to get 3 after playing that.

I dont know what you are talking about. Dead Space 2 was better than the first one.

Well that's just like your opinion.. man

I loved the first one the most out of all 3 of them.

I had mixed feelings about 3 although the last part of the game got really interesting.

Side note:

This doesn't mean Visceral is down. Just the Montreal branch.

Visceral Games is located in Redwood Shores, California at the same site location as the EA corporate headquarters. Visceral Games also has branch offices located in Montreal, Canada and Shanghai, China. There was an Australian studio based in Melbourne, but this was closed down on September 19, 2011.

DS/DS2 were pretty much equally liked/reviewed well. DS3 wasn't as warmly met.

Perhaps it is the Godfather effect. People usually agree the first 2 were good, but argue over which was better, but they both agree no.3 pretty much sucked.

I think it may be because of the mechanics changes. I'm not a fan of a cover system in Dead Space.
