Well with a MacBook Pro you aren't really gonna be championing pc gaming.
You stick with your low quality up scaled console graphics.
You aren't forced to upgrade your components, you might not be able to play everything at max graphics quality with full anti aliasing when your system is old but you still get better graphics than console even at lower quality settings.
And no it really isn't hard - I've had a win 7 install from 2009 that works fine till this day with no installation ball aches.
Besides Steam, origin etc take care of prerequisite installation just fine
