Netflix Region Tool - Watch American Netflix content in Canada!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Do you have an active Non-American Netflix subscription and wish to watch American Netflix content?

Well If you have a Windows 8 pro/RT device I have a tool for you. The Netflix Region tool.

I have recently created a tool that will work both on Windows 8 pro devices as well as RT devices such as the Surface. However it is currently in Beta stages and will only work with the Surface RT/Pro, however it is quite simple to get it to work with other devices. We will discuss this further later on.

This is a very simple tool that will allow users in Canada (and Possibly other countries) watch American Netflix content. This tool is meant for Windows 8 devices because you must use the Netflix Modern App to gain access and not the web browser interface.

This is what the tool looks like.

capture3.png

  • Option 1 will turn on the ability to view American netflix content
  • Option 2 will turn off the ability to view American Netflix Content (You will want to turn it off when you are not using it because it may cause issues browsing the web with this tool turned on)
  • Option 3 will open up the network connections folder where you can see all of your network adapters. (This will be useful for users who do not have a Surface Pro/RT device Because you will need to rename your Network adapter to ?Wi-Fi?. This is because the Surface pro/RT use the name Wi-Fi for there network card)
  • Option 4 will take you to the about page.
  • Option 5 will exit the tool

Users without a Surface device and want to use this tool read below!

If you are a user without a Surface Pro/RT you will need to use option 3 first to open up the network connections folder and select the network adapter you are currently using and rename it to ?Wi-Fi?(Right click the network card and select rename). This is just the visual name of the network card it will not effect your network what so ever. Once you have changed the network card name you can now select option 1 and the tool will work just like if you have a Surface Pro/RT.

not sure about the rest of the world, but the US and Canada netflix work on the same password. The determining factor of the content shown would be where they see you device. I use http://www.unblock-us.com/ and that way i get to use the built in netflix app on Windows Media Center. Tried your tool for the WMC app with windows 7 and doesn't work. Not that I expected it to, just putting it out there in case people were wondering.

You'd think Netflix would have done something about that by now hey?

You can use the same login and password on an unlimited amount of devices, so you can give it out to all your family and friends.

I've been using Netflix for free for like 4 years now, not that I can't afford it myself, lol.

Thanks for the feed back, did you change your network card name to wi-fi?

actually, embarrassingly no i didn't. Didn't know it would be necessary

http://proxydns.co/ also works around the world, not just Canada.

this worked perfectly.

Does anyone know the benefits of the paid one from Unblock-us VS using the free proxydns? Is there any downsides to using the free one?

Yeah the reason is my script is meant more for windows 8 surface. you can use it with windows 7 you just need to rename your network card to "wi-fi" you can refer to "Users without a Surface device and want to use this tool read below!

" I will look into updating my script to use proxydns.co

I will try and use these dns setting in the next version of my tool

I just pay for Unblock US and use a program called DNS switcher to quickly change between it and my automatic DNS :) I'll give your tool a go though and have a look at proxydns, I like the idea of not paying more on top of my Netflix subscription, just wonder how long it will be until it comes out of beta and turns premium :p

In order to do this you still have to have a Netflix account created in one of the markets where Netflix is supported right? It's not possible to sign up for Netflix in a country where it's not supported then use a tool or one of the above posted services to get access to the US Netflix right?

This can be achieved by just setting your connection to using an American Proxy. I wrote a proxy app for a buddy that he could use for cheating on voting sites, I use the same program load it with a bunch of USA Proxies, and work my way through them until I find a full speed one.

Have tested and confirmed it's IP based regional content, and a basic proxy works.

I also use unblock-us,and you can also get Netflix mexico, brazil,UK. All have different content as well. I switch from time to time, and there are always different movies and tv shows, although sometimes some of these will have subtitles in their language that you cant turn off.

Thats correct, as long as you have say a Canadian or UK Netflix account you can use one of the tools above to access American content. My tool was designed more for the windows RT brand because it does not support .exe application. Like some people have said other tools like this exist but they are geared towards full Windows OS and not RT.

Yup all the script does is change the DNS settings on the device. The tool was deisgned for the adverage user to be able to have a quick way of doing this on a Windows RT device, However this will work on a Windows 8 device with a few tweaks.

well, proxydns says its free beta,so they might end up charging for it later. I use unblock-us not only for Netflix, but for NHL Gamecenter Live,so proxydns doesn't do it for me.
