World's tallest hotel opens

Recommended Posts

The JW Marriott's Marquis Dubai formally opened Feb. 26 after gaining the title of tallest hotel from Guinness World Records.

At 355 meters (1,099 feet), the hotel would tower over skylines in most cities. But in Dubai, it sits in the shadow of its more than twice-as-high neighbor, the Burj Khalif, the world's tallest skyscraper at 828 meters (2,717 feet).

Get stuffed, Dubai. Your economy, literally built on sand, is doomed and no amount of oil-money-funded, Western-built vanity projects is going to save you.

AFAIK it's all brother-owned land over there and they don't let the other countries fail. And the other countries make a lot of money from oil.

Abu Dhabi had to bail out the Burj project, which is why the name was changed.

i'm really curious about the fire safety guidelines at those high levels. what's one supposed to do during a fire or fire drill?

- use the stairs?

- use a mini/parachute?

- some inflatable slides like airplanes?

- bring helicopters around to save them?

- a note on the wall saying "if you could afford living here, you've had a good life. save the rest for next." ?

Reminds me of this From Vice ... I'd never want to support Slave Labour.
