Verizon pushing out portico update to lumia 822 users starting today.

Good news for those on Verizon sporting the Nokia Lumia 822 and who were wondering when your OS update was coming. We are told that update is now live for your device, boosting the OS to version 10211 in addition to adding new firmware to the mix. The rollout began at 10am PT/1PM ET.

Nice, better late then never, I also hope that once most if not all users are up to date they'll talk about the next update. Though I don't remember if they ever really talked about portico outside of some blog post.

I wonder why some carriers take so long to release updates. Fortunately for me, my HTC 8S came preloaded with the Portico update. I hope my carrier doesn't take their sweet time with the next update for WP8 devices.

Nice to see. Also, VZW has the 822 added to their free phones (two-year new OR renewal contract required, naturally), along with the perennial Lucid from LG's return (this will be the fourth time the Lucid has been on the free-phone list). My mom is looking to finally trade in her feature phone (LG Cosmos) - thanks to that cost of free, she's trying to decide between the 822 and Lucid. Her big thing is SMS (she is a heavy texter) - not data so much; how is the Lumia as a texting phone?

I think the Lumia 822 would be better for texting because of its larger screen (4.3" vs. 4.0"). If she's a heavy texter than chances are she'll adapt quickly to a virtual keyboard. Also, the Lucid doesn't come with Android 4.0. It may be possible to use a custom ROM to install Ice Cream Sandwich but if you want an official OS, the latest one you'll get is Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).
