Since there is a snowstorm a-brewing around Chicago this morning and I work in a basement, I am watching the progress on weather webcams. The closest cam to me, though, is 10 miles away. So, I'm wondering what it would take to setup my own weather cam? Are there webcams that can function connected directly to a router or does it have to run through a PC?

There are many a cam that just needs an IP, ie directly connected to a router. IP camera is the common term for such a device. You can get ones that can use wireless/wired. Some can use POE (power over ethernet), etc. You should be able to find lots of choices for under $100

waterproof housing will cost you more than the camera and you will need it.

And yes, I will probably just keep it inside looking out a window. I have some very inquisitive squirrels that would probably destroy it if I put a camera outside.
