Yo Neowin! Jose_49 asking some questions again!

You see, after I upgraded to Windows 8 I have seen that scrolling on directories with a couple of folders, files, etc, lags.

The window, in which Windows Expl... I mean, File Explorer is open, whites out and says no responding for a couple of seconds. This happens to me when I have a directory with approx. 100 files+

I never experienced this problem with Windows 7.

I would like to know if someone has experienced this same issue, and/or he/she knows how to fix this.

I suspend the problem is caused by the driver for your mouse. I'm using Logitech mouse and after installing the driver from Logitech, I experience weird scrolling and pointing. I'm happy after removing the driver by Logitech and use Windows own driver instead.

But, yeah, Logitech drivers sometimes can be quite dodgy.

Hmmm. Makes sense. I did forced a Touchpad driver (Laptop: Dell XPS M1530) from other Dell machines. This was because Windows 8 wouldn't recognize the original vista's touchpad driver (worked like a charm on Windows 7). Actually... it did recognized it... the problem was that each time I tried to install it (even with compatibility turned on, something I didn't do on 7 64-bit) the trackpad wouldn't work (it wouldn't move). I ended up putting an inspiron driver (from the same manufacturer) and it did great! The horizontal scrolling is working, which it didn't on Win 7.

Let me try this out.

Well, I can't use the trackpad after upgrading to Windows 8 on this 4 years old Acer laptop. The built-in driver is buggy and I did not expect Acer would release a new driver for this old machine.

In the meantime, upgrade to Windows 8 on my wife's HP laptop removes the WIFI function. Still seeking for driver to turn it on... All the updated driver from HP website is crap. Never look to HP ever since.

Which build? Usually you can find a working driver that HP didn't provide (or that they provided for some of their newer models...sigh)

Laptop idiocy is not specific to any manufacturer, sadly.

Holy !!!!! I feel revitalized.

Today I was tampering with the drivers, and found out that I can make some gestures of Windows 8!!!!!!

So freaking excited!


AND

Right now, I've been able to trigger the down, right and left swipe...

Now, let me write this fast:

For those people who have a Dell XPS M1530 and want to install the Drivers follow these steps:

• Download from the second website the ALPS driver that I'm it (openw3). http://www.4shared.c..._Windows8_.html
  
• Remove any existent driver you have by doing the following
  
• Click left corner (Win Key + x), select device manager.
  
• Below "Mice and other pointing devices", if you have a Dell Touchpad, right click on it, and select uninstall.
  
• Tick the box "Delete the driver software for your device"
  
• Click Ok
  
• DO NOT RESTART PC YET!
  
• Open the Run command: (Win key + R)
  
• Type regedit
  
• On the uppermost menu, click Edit, and select find. Alternatively you can press CTRL + F.
  
• Search for "Alps" without commas.
  
• There shall be a folder named "Alps"
  
• Delete that folder (Click "Yes" on the warning)
  
• Restart the PC.
  
• Install the recently downloaded file, by extracting it to a desired folder. If not, leave it like that and let it install it on C:\drivers\dell
  
• Go to the recently created folder (In my case it was: C:\dell\drivers\1JW07)
  
• Click the setup file you see outside the three folders (Vi32, Vi64 and DotNetFix)
  
• Install it
  
• Restart the PC.
  
• If by restart you find a nifty message telling you that "ApRotion.dll" is missing or something like that. That it couldn't start, etc. Dismiss the message by clicking ok
  
• Now, the file I have attached to this post. That is the missing ApRotion.dll, I got that file from a Fujitsu driver download, that was suggested on the first link below.
  
• Once you download it, copy or move the file to "C:\Program Files\DellTPad" without commas.
  
• DO NOT CLOSE THIS WINDOW, if you have little experience moving through Windows using your keyboard.
  
• Click "Yes" on the prompt to allow copy or move.
  
• Open task manager: Do it as you please, or right click on the task bar (The taskbar bottom part bar which contains the programs you're currently running) and select Task Manager.
  
• Go to the Details tab.
  
• Select "Apoint.exe", and select "End task". BEWARE: DOING THIS WILL STOP your mouse movements. So it is very recommendable that you have an external mice for this procedure if you have little knowledge on moving through the OS using the keyboard.
  
• Click yes, after End task to kill the program.
  
• Your mouse shall not move. This is normal.
  
• Press ALT + Tab on your keyboard to return to the window you just copied/moved the "Apoint.dll" (This is why I recommended you not to close the window).
  
• Click Apoint.exe, and you'll be done!
  
• Enjoy your rejuvenated Alps Touchpad driver
  
  
  
  If you want to use some of WIndows 8 gestures
  
  Go to the previous folder (DellTpad) and doubleclick DellTouchpad.exe
  
  
  
  Enable the swipe settings, and you'll be done!
