Hardware upgrades: SSD and new CPU heatsink

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I'm planning a few upgrades for my Intel Q6600 Core2Quad desktop (socket 775). I'm planning on upgrading to a SSD and replacing the CPU heatsink (which is still the stock Intel heastsink fan). I'm kind of trying to limit the list down to items available for Prime shipping on Amazon.

My motherboard is an Asus P5K Deluxe/Wi-Fi. Here is a link to the specifications of the mobo:

http://www.asus.com/...#specifications

The heatsink I'm looking at is this one:

But I am open for suggestions.

On the SSD, I'm looking for best-GB/Price ration and interested in 250GB drives. Not really interested in the fastest drive out there.

This Samsung drive for $169.99 looks the most reasonable to me:

But if someone has a strong reason I should consider some other SSD I'm all ears.

Thanks for your time and input!

I ended up going with the Crucial M4. It was only 6 more GB advertised. I wonder if they are the same either way (and Crucial is just advertising 6 more GBs)...

I opted out of getting the CPU fan. Mine is working fine, and although I'd like my whole system to be quieter I don't think I'm ready to replace all the fans and possibly the chassis to make that possible.

What is the difference between the awesome Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo & this TX3 ?  Just go with the Hyper 212 Evo - its $10 more and has been the best cost:performance cooler for about a decade.

SSD - its hard to beat the cost:size:performance of the new crucial MX100 line

Here is a 512GB crucial for $10 more than the 250GB you listed or you can get a 256GB for $112
