Replacing Hard Drive

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I realize this is probably a stupid question, but I just purchased a laptop with a 5400 RPM hard drive in it and want to replace it with a 7200 RPM hard drive, but I've never done that before.

So, my stupid question is how do I get all of my stuff (and Windows) onto the new hard drive so that I can put that in the laptop and use it?

Thanks everyone for your help. :)

Thank you everyone for your help. I will definitely check out those links and everything. I looked at the laptop and it doesn't appear the hard drive should be much of a problem replacing... It's not a Macbook Air or anything... But I do really appreciate the help. Now just to get everything together I guess so that I can get this upgraded. :)

Thanks Again,

Why don't you throw an SSD into the mix to spruce up the laptop and keep the 5400rpm drive for storage. My old Dell C2D laptop has a 5400rpm OS drive. It sure is a PITA and bottlenecks doing almost anything and everything.
