Windows 7 for me.... with Windows 2000 in second place, and probably XP third

I was always partial to windows 3.1, but that's because my old 286 was set up to run ms dos 5.

Of the later versions, XP just beats 98

Latest... 7.

Windows 95 as it was the first full on Windows with great multimedia support, i used to run Windows 3.1/3.11 but it was more of a utility and i spent most of my time in DOS.

Next Windows 2000, i loved NT 4.0 and 2000 was the icing on the cake, bringing USB support, multimedia support, rock solid and really quick,

Next Windows 7, reminds me a lot of Windows 2000, fast and ultra reliable,

Next Windows 8, it's really grown on me a lot, love the speed and performance of it, still not massively impressed by metro.

I did love Windows ME as it was the fastest windows for games, i never had any of the stability issues and it would easily play directx games faster than other 9x's and WinXP.

I know it's off topic but

Hated Windows 98/SE and Windows XP as they both slowed down the OS's they were both derived from (Win95 and 2000) adding bloat and not really much else.

To echo the popular consensus...

Windows 7 followed very closely by Windows 2000 Professional. If Windows 2000 could run .NET Framework applications and had ClearType I would probably run it to this day.

For a workstation it would be Windows 7 for me.

But let's add something completely different:Microsoft-Windows-Home-Server,-horizontal.svg

What, no poll?

No brainer though. Windows 7 all the way!!

Whether Windows 95 started it all or not, it was still a crash and burn POS, although I'd probably use it over Vista or Me or Windows 8!! I only say that if it was a perfect world and the OS wasn't so old that you basically can't even use it on the net anymore.

Windows 7 was the OS I enjoyed the most. But now I love Windows 8. I love the improvements they made on the back side. Within a few seconds I can log in on my pc and start using it.

Windows 7 and Windows 2000 although I do like Windows 8. Windows 2000 because it finally provided an easier to use Windows NT based system for masses and Windows 7 because it provided the sort of refinement that allowed Windows 8 and future releases to be developed.

Win 7 for me but getting to like 8 more and more. Before 7 though I found 2000 to be as solid as a rock.

Windows 8 - and touch has nit to do with it.

Why? Windows historically has been about versatility; it's been a general-purpose/multipurpose operating environment (3.x/9x) and operating system (NT), and 8 drives that home with a jackhammer.

Given proper hardware support, you can run 8 as a mini (or even not-so-mini) *server* - thanks to Hyper-V. Meanwhile, you can still do practically anything and everything previous flavors could do, and without a real hardware *tax*.

Versatility FTW.

win 3.11 for workgroups as it made it so easy to set up a small (business) network. Only the cabling was so bad. If an endconnector wasn't tightly fit, the whole network went down ;-)

win95 as it started the new UI

win2000, much improved over NT

win7, great evolution over XP and Vista

win8, another change in UI. People are stil deciding good or bad ;-)

For the moment I'm still preferring XP. I've moved over to 7 in the past week or two and...well, a lot of things are great (the improved search in the start menu, for one). But there are a lot of things that annoy me about it. My view about it may change in time, but for now I would really like to go back to XP.

Windows 2000

All after Windows 2000 is bloatware and bells and whistles

Yeah, who wants bells and whistles anyways. Just like cars, who'd want one that's faster, uses less gas, has more features, etc. etc.

Windows 2000 by far, it had customization, stability, compatibility and no annoying skins all at the turn of the century.

Has to be Windows 7, its took all the advancements we gained with Vista, added some great additions (Aero Snap for one!) and polished everything nicely.

Must admit I still have a soft spot for Windows XP too.

windows 7 was great.

i guess they had to break something in windows 8 so that they could be seen to fix something in windows 9

Even though I loved Windows Vista, Windows 7 is my all time faveorite. The reason being is that there is so much more custimization options with Windows 7 then there is with Vista.

Please - Windows 2000 Professional was skinnable. In fact, most of the skins for XP would also work with Windows 2000 Professional.

Windows 2000 Professional borrowed a lot of UI tricks from Windows Millenium Edition and 98 Second Edition - however, because it was still NT under the pretty skin, it was both far more efficient and far more secure than either ME or 98SE.

Windows 2000 Professional (again, due to those NT insides) was also a better Internet client than 9x (including ME) - even over dial-up. (It was the better Internet client performance - I was still using dial-up in those days - AND that I could take my most popular games with me - Windows 2000 Pro had surprisingly-solid game support - that got me to switch - from 98 Second Edition. My getting broadband in 2000 merely drove the reason for switching home with a jackhammer.)

Windows 2000. I loved everything about that OS. I loved how simple and clean the UI was. Loved how small the the login box was and the fact it was in the center of the screen. Not the giant full screen ones we have today. The entire OS (like someone already mentioned) was very straight to the point. That being said, i'm sure a 4 year old may have some issues :D
