Laptop Sleep problem. Painful customer..

So long story short i've got a painful customer who is bring a laptop back for me to look at.

Her problem is she wants the laptop to ask for a password after she has shut the lid and then opens it again.

what happens now

she shuts the lid, it goes to sleep and has a flashing light (she doesnt want a flashing light)

when she opens the lid it doesnt wake up and she needs to hit a button such as the spacebar or the power button and she doesnt want that ether, from there it ask for a password.

she says this was working before i looked at it.

i dont have the laptop on me right now but i believe it was a new toshiba.

help me with my pain.

Well as for the client not wanting to see the blinking light the laptop you need to change the option when I close the lid "Hibernate"

When opening the lid most laptops will turn back on, I would dig into power options and see if there is an action option.

she is really picky and doesnt want to wait for it to come out of hibernation. she had a go at me because it took 15 second for windows 7 to do a cold boot

she should be coming in with the laptop soon so i should be able to try a few things then, im just hoping someone might have a idea.

Configure the power settings maybe and how it acts upon the closing and shutting of the lid. Also configure on what it should do upon boot .... (i.e. ask for a password etc)

Thats the main problem, getting to act how she want it to

most laptops when they go to sleep will have a flashing light, its just what they do.

my best idea i can come up with is to set it to so when the lid is shut it does nothing, have it so the screen saver comes on after 2 min and set it to lock when it comes out of screen saver.

its kinda a dodge way of doing things but at the moment its the closest i can get to what she wants.

Ahh I wasn't certain of what she was looking for at first. Did she have it previously configured differently? (ie.. no flashing light etc?)

Maybe you can just install the old power profiles from the manufacturer. /Restore/ or download from the official website.

But if she wants something specific done that the laptop didn't do before then maybe hibernation is the best option. This will keep the light off opposed to stand by.

she says it was working before... im not so sure about that. yeah ill see if they have any power profile software on their support site and ill also update bios.

other than that ill try a system restore point to back when she first dropped it in.

Wow. Just ... wow. Tell her that Cray-1 needed much more time to boot. Does this laptop have and SSD? I'm really amazed at how stupid people are. They buy a $500-600 machine and expect wonders.

Hibernation works 100% in getting that light to stop flashing.

HP usually has power profiles on their website.

yeah i think ill do that now.

also just for a update, it is a Asus laptop not a toshiba.

i have done almost anything i can think of and yeah Hibernation sounds like the best bet, im hoping she dosnt complain to much about it not being instant on.

as for turning on immediately after opening. some laptops do that and some don't, and most that do end up not doing it anyway, it might be a windows update that disabled it or something I dunno. you may want to make sure hybrid sleep is off.

and don't ever set it to do nothing. she will put her running laptop in a bag and fry the hardware.

yeah thanks for the tips, i looked into those things but came up with nothing that worked in the end. so now when she shuts the lid it goes into hibernation. she wasnt to happy on the phone saying i violated her computer :/. just another fun day dealing with customers.
