10 years since I registered on Neowin

Recommended Posts

I wouldn't normally post a milestone topic, however I just randomly realised that today I?ve been a member of Neowin for 10 years! I think that's worthy of a milestone post as can?t honestly say any other website I might have been participating in 10 years ago is still around today, I think the Neowin team deserves some serious praise to be honest.

I?ve been visiting since I was around 15 I believe, I remember visiting the site in School, College, Uni and now work.

I actually discovered Neowin more than 10 years ago, sometime back in 2001. Neowin kept getting linked to for random news about Microsoft and Windows XP betas. After ending up on the site a few times I added it to my favourites and started reading the news each day. I have probably visited Neowin most days for the last 11+ years, easily! I also got in to the Office 2003, Windows Vista and various MSN Messenger betas thanks to Neowin!

It did take me well over a year to actually sign-up to Neowin as you can see, from what I remember I thought the forum were too big and that I didn't know enough about anything to participate in the discussions. I do remember why I eventually signed up however. At the time I had recently upgraded my first ever computer from a Pentium 2 @ 300mhz to an AMD Athlon XP 2200+. I wanted to know the best way to network my PC with my mates, so we could have a LAN and all have internet access at the same time.

Needless to say the advice I got was spot on and I stuck about on the forums ever since, both to try help others where I can and get help with many more complex problems over the years.

Anyway, I just wanted to say a big thank you to all the staff past and present for keeping the site both up and running, and ensuring it's a great place to visit! I know from running my own website it?s not always easy, especially when massive issues happen at the most inconvenient of times. I think it?s safe to say Neowin has made its mark on the internet, I?ve often found Neowin in Google search result?s when randomly looking something up, so if I didn?t find Neowin all those years ago chances are I would have sooner or later.

So that?s a bit about my Neowin history, here?s to the next 10 years of Neowin!! :)

Also I?ll soon be taking out a Tier 2 subscription to show my support, I figured after 10 years it?s about time! (Y)

Congrats on 10 years, I'll be 10 years on Saturday and will be joining you in the milestone area! When we first joined, neowin was being shut down by Microsoft for leaking their betas of longhorn/MSN Messenger :p.

Congrats! Awesome :D

My story was kind of similar too--found the site via Google searching, didn't sign up right away, etc. But it wasn't nearly so long ago! Thanks for being a great part of the community :D
