Tethercell: Control Battery-Operated Devices from Your Smartphone or Tablet

What Tethercell allows you to do:

- Turn AA-battery-powered devices on and off remotely

- Be alerted when battery power is low

- Set device schedules & timers

- *NEW* Find Tethercell enabled devices with proximity function

Looks interesting, not sure if the functionality would win over the extra battery life of an AA vs AAA running an extra device on top of the one it's already supposed to be powering though

Turn something using AA batteries on and off... remotely?

Oh wow just think of the uses, you can turn your clock off so you have to set the time and date again when you get home or you could errr turn off the battery in a smoke alarm or err...

Yeah, seems useless enough.

How useless is this, considering many devices that run on batteries have a soft power switch which means enabling the cell doesn't necessarily enable the device it powers.

Cant see any real use for it, remote mains switching is better but still very limited in use, although it is an interesting DIY project to set up if you are interested in electronics + hardware/software interfacing.
