Mainstream support for WP 8 ends July 2014, WP 7.8 September 2014

Recommended Posts

Plaffo.com reports on the life cycle support dates of Windows Phone 7.8 and Windows Phone 8.

According to the table Windows Phone 7.8 will receive security updates until 9 September 2014, while Windows Phone 8 will sunset on the 8th July 2014.

The date relates to how long Microsoft will make updates, including security updates available for the operating system, and it is of note that the date is not from when the phone is sold but when the cycle started.

This means for example a Windows Phone 8 handset sold in July 2013 will have only one year of guaranteed support.

Already reported by Neowin:

This means for example a Windows Phone 8 handset sold in July 2013 will have only one year of guaranteed support.

Also means that when you upgrade your 2013 WP8 handset to WP8.5 (Blue) and on to WP9, your guaranteed support date will extend to a much later date.

I can see the short life cycle for WP8; all WP8 devices can be updated to WP9. But that's NOT the case for devices running WP7.8 (and Nokia are flogging brand new phones with this OS). Such a short support life cycle for 7.8 is not acceptable!

The only new phone with 7.8 on it from them is the 510 isn't it? You'll never see it sold outside of 3rd world markets, they don't care about updates so much like the people who visit this forum.
