I hear there are tweaks to tune internet speeds in Windows 8 ?

Recommended Posts

HP Pavilion 23 desktop with Windows 8 (recently new)

Comcast DOCCIS 3 compliant Xfinity modem delivers 50mbps directly connected but just 15 feet away drops away to almost 16mbps during the day, maybe 28mbps in the early early morning on the East Coast.

I am reading on another forum that speeds can be tweaked at the Windows Registry. Can this work for wireless speeds and in Windows 8?

Thanks for any help.

That tweak is to do with the way packets are handled and sent.

It tweaks the way packets are built before being sent. It will not affect your wireless signal (which is a question of signal to noise ratio).

Have a look at your wireless signal and see if it's overly noisy etc..

That's not an OS issue. Wireless signals are hampered by physical materials (walls, that sort of thing), that the OS cannot fix. If you're looking to boost a signal, a wireless repeater is what you would need.

It's equally likely that he is broadcasting with too much power at that range.

Move 30 feet out and try again >.<

If it's still borked, then reposition the router :)
