ATLien_0
So WP is slowly catching on and yes the App store is growing. I love the OS so far compared to iOS or Android. However the one thing that is still bothering me, and one of the very few reasons why I may not stick with WP in the long run is the number of apps that are developed first for the iPhone and Android. Im sure WP has some neat apps, but most are ports from the other 2. Its interesting how every week I read about some new iPhone app that is catching on, and sure enough the developer only made it for iPhone. There is an obvious reason for that, target for the masses. This week there was some more chatter about instagram and snapchap and a new iphone app called rando. Do you all think WP will get to a point this year where we will see new apps/social media being developed for it at the same time as the other 2 or even before them...? I doubt it, WP just doesn't have the Share that Android and iOS have. This means developers can monetize things more on those platforms. I think a majority of WP exclusive apps will be Windows Exclusive. I don't think WP will be a primary development platform any time soon, if at all. Yusuf M. Veteran Posted March 27, 2013 Veteran Share Posted March 27, 2013 As much as I like Windows Phone, it's going to take at least a couple of years for it to take the number 3 spot. Every platform has its exclusives but the popular apps will always be released for iOS and Android. Also, it's likely that such an app won't be released for WP8 alongside iOS and Android. The problem that WP faces is two juggernauts (iOS and Android) and BlackBerry. It's very unlikely that WP will surpass either of the juggernauts but it's possible that it can secure a third spot from BlackBerry. Now, BlackBerry isn't dead yet. BB10 isn't doing as well as they expected but it also isn't doing bad. And for WP to succeed, BB10 needs to suffer the same fate as Palm's WebOS. This is my opinion and just one possible outcome in the coming years. It's also possible that one of the juggernauts, iOS or Android, fails and WP gobbles up a huge chunk of the market. WP is already secured as 3rd place but yes it will take a while before it overtakes iOS/Android but as we know on the technology landscape things can happen pretty darn quickly! That and the fact Android might start falling apart if Samsung pursues Tizen. The game could change pretty quickly. Then theres possibilities (yes they are extreme) like Android becoming a complete malware festival with web exploits and the like.
Mockingbird
I have to agree with Anaron on this. Windows Phone will need to have 15%+ market share worldwide and crushed BlackBerry before apps start to appear simultaneously appear on Windows Phone Store and other application store. vcfan
the API for windows phone and windows 8 is being unified. the same app will run on phone, tablet and PC. There are 350 million PCs sold per year. Developers chase the # of users. Its going to be a totally different ballgame. BTW recent developments Microsoft says Windows Phone is outselling iPhone in 7 markets, Blackberry in 26 http://blogs.technet.com/b/mic...ck-and-springing-ahead.aspx Microsoft: Windows Phone Is Now No. 2 Mobile OS In India http://wmpoweruser.com/microso...ow-no-2-mobile-os-in-india/ They also hit over %10 marketshare in a lot of countries already. With the release of the 2 cheaper priced nokia lumia 520 and 720 soon, the numbers are going to be keep looking better and better.
jakem1
Here's an example where a sequel to a relatively popular game is now available on WP before other platforms: http://wmpoweruser.com/windows-phone-exclusive-gravity-guy-2-now-available-for-download/
Dick Montage
WP is already secured as 3rd place Really? You got figures for that, because last I heard, BlackBerry's were still clinging on... Curious!
techbeck
There are apps being developed for WP before other platforms, but the devs are mostly going to go first to the platforms they can benefit hte most from. Right now Android and iOS are on top. WP may never overtake iOS or Android and if it does, wont be anytime soon at the rate they are going. And Android will not fall apart if Samsung ditches them. Android is bigger than Samsung. And if you download any apps on Android other than the official Play Store or from Amazon, the user deserves to be infected. It is funny that you are commenting on Android malware when malware has been living and breathing on Windows devices for years. iOS/WP can be infected as well but granted not as easy as Android. But again, that depends on the how smart the users are as well.
techbeck
Now, BlackBerry isn't dead yet. BB10 isn't doing as well as they expected but it also isn't doing bad. . A company in Florida recently purchase 1 million BB 10 devices as well. So apparently people still like/want BBs. http://news.yahoo.com/brightstar-revealed-mystery-company-bought-1-million-blackberry-201700642.html
bogas04
Of course another reason to get excited is the exclusivity part. As we informed you yesterday, this game is a ?first? on Windows Phone 8 with the iPhone and Android versions due at a later date. For that, we think Miniclip and GG2 deserve at least a trial, no? http://www.wpcentral..._medium=twitter
