My first "Build Post" - Enjoy

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone @ Neowin,

Today I am posting my first "build post" and I will try to be as detailed as possible - let's start

The wife told me 9 computers is slightly excessive and told me she would really like me cut this down. So - I did what any IT man would do and bought a bigger better machine than the 9 lol.

#

# TASK

#

To build a headless Hypervisor to run VMs (onboard) so the wife does not kill me.

Above: So it turns out taking a picture of a box this big with a glossy outside is not that easy, p.s. to preempt the question: Correct I was too impatient to wait for the new Obsidian being launched in 2 weeks lol.

#

# MOTHER BOARD

Above: Perhaps not the best Mother board for this build but I have always used these boards for work and I have never had a problem.

#

# CPU

#

Above: No need to 'K' as I am not over-clocking and this was a good deal and supports virtualization. - Yeah yeah yeah it's Ivy Bridge lol

# RAM

Above: Since we are not over-clocking this will be enough ;)

#

# HYPERVISOR STORAGE

Above: Oh what's this? 2 Samsung Pros? Raid 1 - Not recommended you say? Oh man I am going to prove to you it works. lol

# NAS STORAGE

# OPTICAL DRIVE

# POWER SUPPLY UNIT

Above: Yeeeeaaah! Maybe I am a fan of Corsair.

# HEADSET

Above: So my wife is concerned once I get this new computer that it will cut into our social time - problem solved LOL, I am just kidding.

What's the optical drive for?

I still buy as many games on optical media as I can, purely for the speed compared to download and a physical copy! Might be the same with the OP :)

Oh right, I thought he was building it to run as VM's. Makes sense now.

Well I thought that too, but when I saw the headset, I thought maybe it was for both purposes.
