custom pc builders?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, Ive struggled away with my current core 2 duo and gtx650 for long enough. I've recently come into some money and I want a decent gaming PC that will last me a while.

Im looking to spend around ?1500-?2000, which is about 4times what my current pc cost me (and the same as my car xD). All of my pc's before this one have been custom builds but spending this much money I want some security that its done correctly and it will be less hassle. (all my builds have thrown up some issues)

Ive been looking at the Vortex 2000 from pcspecialist: http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/view/Vortex-2000-gaming-pc/

Also been looking at https://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/

can anyone recommend any good sites (UK) or have any experience with these type of companies.

thanks.

I have seen a ibuypower pc and a cyberpower pc come across my personal bench a couple of times. Both are fine, neither keep drivers on their site always link away to the manufacturer sites. This is not something I like on a personal level, I buy it from you so you should have the drivers. Do yourself a favor and image the computer prior to putting it in production so that you have a clean install to go back to if something goes awry. I personally have never seen or heard of pcspecialist.

You can purchase ibuypower or cyberpower from amazon.co.uk, they may not be exactly tailored to your wants/needs through amazon.

I'd suggest you pick out the parts and put them together yourself. Or most companies here who sell parts also include assembly (for a price).

For 2k you can get a beast of a machine already while 2k pre-build may come as lacking sometimes.

I just finished my second build for ?1500 and looking around over here there's almost nothing coming close in terms of specs but there are way pricier pre-buids.

Even though you seem set on buying a pre-built PC, I'd still recommend going the custom route since you'll be able to get a lot more for your money.

Us here are more than happy to step you though anything you need help with and/or troubleshoot issues that arise.

And of course, we'll all definitively recommend you good components on your build. Putting the pieces together takes 10 minutes, but picking the parts can take hours. We're here to help. :)

Take a look at http://www.novatech.co.uk/pc/gaming/, they are a family run business that has grown greatly over the last few years due to the quality of their service. I would pick a PC you like and give them a call and they can advise you on the components and if you want to swap as you may like a better GPU etc, then its not a problem as there systems are custom built and tested before they ship them.

Thanks for the advice guys, I dont really want to spend ?2k if I can help it, it was just that that one seemed the best and like it would last a long time.

The only reason I thought about pre-built is that I would have a warranty and no worries. As I said, ive built 3 computers before but teh most expensive one was ?500 in total. I was just a little worried that I spent lots of money on a computer and something went wrong rofl. I do know a bit about it though. Just a little mind you.

This is my basic thinking, I want an i7, 16GB ram, GTX 680/690 and an SSD. Thats the basic idea behind what I want. Just a good gaming pc that I can upgrade in the future if need be and that wont be out-dated very quickly.

I will have a look around on some other sites as the rig I posted does seem quite expensive.

Thanks for that link.

Looking at this pc: http://www.novatech....blacknti39.html It looks just as good as the first one I linked, and almost ?400 cheaper.

edit: They are selling that build for ?1644. I priced all the parts separately and it came to ?1580 (without case). That's only ?64 to build it. Don't you guys think that is worth it? Or would you still self build?

After reading through shopping sites for ages, I am confident I could build a good system. However, I know you guys are great with this so please, by all means recommend me a processor/mobo or anything you think I should get.

The only thing Im really set on is a gtx 680 or 690. As I like the series and I could SLI either further down the line.

www.dinopc.co.uk I got mine from there, you can customise every part with no incompatibilities - Comes properly cable managed and built perfect.

edit: seems novatech is quite a bit cheaper

thanks for the link. Have added it to my new bookmark folder for "new pc stuff" :)

Checking it out now.

Yep I do like the look of novatech and their prices seem great.

Especially with the tiny difference in price from building myself (?60).

If I get set on a build which has such a small difference then im definitely going pre-built.

...snipped...

With any PC I would call the vendor. The sales people at Novatech are well known for being helpful. With that one I would think about swapping the 2 SSD's for a larger single one, doubt it will make a huge difference in performance. Also think about that CPU, the i7 3770k would perform just as we'll in a gaming rig and save you the ???'s for a better PSU and a step up in GPU. Also check what RAM they are using, I have gotten free upgrades to better RAM before and as you are spending a lot they may be open to a little discount.
