I've begin to have this problem where when I take my phone off the charger in the morning, the display won't activate with side button until I press it a few times. This morning, I had to hold it down and power off and then power back on. Is this a known issue with the device?

Same here, but I found by pressing the power again twice and waiting sometimes it does wake up.
It's almost like it's in a deep sleep.

I've never had to power mine down though.

There's also a bug where if you're in a long call using the speaker, the screen goes off and you can't switch the screen back on if you have the power button set to end-call (an option in Android), therefore no hardware key can wake up the screen during a call without ending the call!

Otherwise, it's a near perfect phone.

I've had this happen on my Galaxy Nexus (4.2.2). I think it has something to do with Daydream. Do you use that as well? The current ROM I'm on has no problems, but I have noticed this with other ROM's.

If this is the case it might be a good idea to disable day dream. As by default, it isn't supposed to become active except in a dock and I'm not even sure what qualifies as that for the N4.

Thanks for the heads up.
