Except religion doesn't keep people away from drugs. Heck, in a many number of cases it can't even keep it's priesthood away from homosexuality, and I dunno about you guys - but from what I've seen, homosexuality is generally viewed to be the bigger "sin" (If drugs are even a sin in the first place) as far as certain religions go.

So your point kinda falls short there.

In your opinion you think it falls short. It obviously isn't going to work for everybody. My point was that if it saves a few, it's worth it.

I've heard many stories about how religion saved people from drugs (normally it's after they've already been into drugs, and it helped find there way out of it).

Saves them from drugs, and leads them instead into the realm of brainwashing. Not -that- much of an improvement, really.

It doesn't do anything. Everything that is done, is because of the individual. Once that individual loses their willpower, they will go right back to what they were doing. Rinse and repeat. Thats how you get born agains and other people who just happened to "succumb to the devil for a moment."

Just FYI but, that logic you're using there is the same logic that people use to justify things like genocide and eugenics. (Hey we might murder a million, but over time we'll save billions!!)

There are vastly better alternatives and considering the above, yeah... Take my advice and quit before you're in a self-dug pit.

It sounds like exactly the same logic Obama is using for his gun control push.

So to summarise:

Proliferation of Guns, which costs 10,000 lives a year:

WAAAAHH! How dare you impede my freedom

Stomping on a flag, an action which hurts nobody

ZOMG, how dare they be so disrespectful! we should ban it and slap them in jail at once :o

I love it when people love freedom, as long as it's only being used to do things they personally approve of.

What does gun control have to do with this topic?

I realise y'all Ameriguns have a sexual attraction to guns and all but damn, time and place dude. And this isn't it.

(Also again just FYI but, you've actually got the logic backwards, nice try though - just completely irrelevant to the topic)

If people choose to believe it is not brainwashing.

And North Korea is the global pinnacle of freedom, happiness and prosperity, amirite?

You people are scary, seriously. You are echoing the same sort of language that authoritarian regimes use to justify themselves.

You're supposed to be freedom-loving Americans, you should be to the furthest extreme away of such thought as you can get.

You obviously dont understand what brainwashing is then. The Branch Davidians, Heaven's Gate and Jim Jones followers all believed as well and here you are saying that's not brainwashing.

Ah but it did hurt somebody. A student originally got suspended for refusing to do it.

Sorry, try again.

No, he was suspended for threatening the teacher.

Sorry, try again.

Maybe you should read the part where the student threatened the teacher. He wasn't suspended for refusing to do the lesson, he was suspended for theatening violence against a teacher.

They didn't force the kids to stomp on the paper with the word Jesus on it.

They asked them to do it, to gauge a reaction and then talk about why some would have an issue doing so and others wouldn't.

Seems perfectly fine to me, it encourages critical thinking

Yeah I'm sure it would ok to right out a word for muslims or homosexuals on a sheet of paper and have students stomp on it to see the reactions because it encourages critical thinking. Every hypocritical leftwing group would be crying out for action and making threats.

The way the assignment is worded is to have the kids write the word on a paper, then you tell them to stomp on the paper, not the person. He didn't say "Stomp on Jesus", he said, "Stomp on the paper." So yes, it would be OK to write anything on that and say it in the correct way. It would encourage critical thinking, something many do not do.

You can try to make yourself believe that all you want but every leftwing group would be all over it and that sorry excuse wouldn't fly with them.

Is this fact, or just something you believe...... because people believe a lot of crap, and that doesn't mean it is anything near the truth.

If it was in the same setting and it was to prove a similar point, then Yes, it should be absolutely possible
