BoDEAN
Most home users keep their movies and music on their desktop hard drive? Or do u have a NAS? Never looked at getting a NAS but my movie and music collection is starting to fill me 3TB hard drive on my pc
JTA
I had everything on my desktop, but I was starting to run out of space, so I got a Synology DS413 and three 2TB WD Red drives set up with the Synology hybrid raid (which is essentially just a raid 5). Wanted to load it up with 4 drives, but it would have put me over budget. :( I havent really used all the features that come with the OS, but I love the functionality nonetheless. Max Norris
Music I keep on my primary desktop system, not too worried about sharing that aside from a few to my phone. Movies and such are on an array on a server that's doing other things too, shared over the network to a few computers/devices, a couple of XBoxes running XBMC, etc.

cacoe
Shared folder from my PC over the network. Easiest way IMO.
beanboy89
My music collection is backed up to three different external hard drives. They're all connected to my main desktop which is accessible via the network to other devices.
articuno1au
I've got a server feeding to all of the computers in my house. Server has an 8TB RAID 5 (5 x 2TB) array. 2 x 4TB external disks for backups. I automate everything with it and it stays up indefinitely. I can stream content from it to my tablet/phone/laptop/desktop/xbox et all. I'm pleased with it :)
Brandon H Supervisor Posted March 31, 2013 Supervisor Share Posted March 31, 2013 I have most of my media set up on an external harddrive plugged into a usb3 port on a computer that has Plex on it
tsupersonic
All my media is stored on my NAS, which in turn has media sharing on - so I can stream to Xbox 360. For music, it's locally stored on my desktop, but backed up to NAS (and can stream to 360)

Brian M. Veteran Posted April 1, 2013 Veteran Share Posted April 1, 2013 I store everything on my iTunes server (virtualized), which is streamed to various Apple TVs/iPhones/iPads around the house (we are very much an Apple household :p). That server has a virtual drive on my data store which has access to 12TB of space (shared among other VMs too).
Sjokkel
After losing most of my data in a burglary i keep my personal data in 3 places. One of them is a synology DS213 running 2 2tb discs in mirror. I use the surveillance station on the synology to help prevent further break ins in the house. Hum 1 Share

Paul Ferson Veteran Posted April 1, 2013 Veteran Share Posted April 1, 2013 My media is stored on a hard drive at the moment. The drive in question is a 500GB Seagate Barracuda, which is a fairly new addition to my computer. The old drive, a 500GB Caviar Blue from Western Digital, died on me. The Barracuda was the cheapest replacement I could get. I'll also RMA the Caviar Blue and hope for a replacement drive from WD. 1TB of space would be nice to have. We don't have any networked drives in my house, but I like the concept and I'll look into it.

Tomoko
I used to keep them on DVDs but they are just too small anymore, I have so many stacks of spindles and it's a pain storing them or finding stuff. I now keep everything on a 2 TB external hard drive which is nearly filled and a lot of which I have no backup for so that's kind of scary. I've been waiting for BD-R prices to become reasonable but it seems like that format just isn't taking off. Now for smaller and important things like family photos, documents, etc. I keep backed up to multiple sources. My external hard drive for quick access, DVD-RAM, and some stuff online. I even have my old family photos on a 640MB MO cartridge though I no longer have a way to read it. Still it's another backup and you can never have enough of those. bgjerlow
I actually have 3 different places I store my media on. The latest season of TV shows that I follow and movies I have recently got, I store on either my media center PC's hard drive or on my external hard drive. I also have a partition on my desktop where I have older seasons of different TV shows, and older movies as well. As for photos and music, I store all of that on my desktop PC.
