Assassin's Creed will be annual until players say stop

With the Assassin's Creed series getting new instalments annually, there are, perhaps, those who will grow tired of franchise -- if they haven't already. Since Assassin's Creed II, there's been a new title in the main series every year, the last one being Assassin's Creed III. Then there are all the spin-offs, comics, novels, shorts, and animated movies which, frankly, seem a tad unnecessary. That's just a lot of saturation.

Ubisoft Montreal's head honcho, Yannis Mallat, recently told Eurogamer at GDC that they have no intention of taking a breather, as he believes that fans are eager for more. "The players will tell us. Right now there are more and more coming into the franchise, so I don't see that day ... It's our breakthrough. When you have quality content, the frequency of coming out with the game is not an issue at all."

With Assassin's Creed III being the most successful game in the series, inexplicably, to me, the numbers appear to be on Mallat's side. There are several teams working on Assassin's Creedtitles, so at least the same teams aren't having to split their time between, say, Black Flag, and the yet unrevealed title being planned for next year.

Hmm, a tricky one. On the one hand, I still enjoy the series (that said I still haven't played the latest one). On the other, I've been playing for the story. The fact that he is admitting that there is no definitive ending (or at least, there is no plan to complete the story in a reasonable time) upsets me.

I like the AC series. AC II is one of my favourite games.

If Treyarch and Dice can keep churning out shooters annually, I don't see the issue with Ubisoft churning out AC titles. Don't like 'em, don't play 'em.

I'm sad that Piranha won't be able to bring out Risen 3, before this shyte hits the shelves. Dark Waters was the first decent pirate RPG I've even played. Totally POTC-inspired (therefore, awesome), flawed to hilariosity at times, but, obviously, that goes with not having a budget that could feed half of Nairobi for a year, savvy?

Rarely anyone knows of it, I wager. And so the Black Flag will be the return of the pirates' theme for most. And then everybody will want pirates and copy pirates - the new cool for at least a year, because their PR budget constitutes half of that of the whole game.

I personally don't think there will ever be an ending to it.

I think it's one of those series they will continue to make until they get bored, and then pull it. Which is a massive shame IMO.

Well if you finished AC3 then you could say the first part of the story is now done and we'll be starting the second part with AC4. So far I don't worry about it becoming stale because they keep adding to it and you can do more and more with each update. Look at 4 it seems you can do even more when it comes to the naval combat parts and now you can finally dive underwater and swim around more, thank god. I still remember in AC1 that you'd die if you fell in the water, just shows how far they've taken the game.

keep it coming I say. as long as they make it fresh and keep invigorating the gameplay and storyline, there is no end to the wonders that I would love to buy and play.

I'd love to see a next generation version that let's you go into more buildings. I'd also like them to move it up in time more. We're still in the 18th century in 4. I'd like them to make it up to WW1 and 2 etc.

I like AC2 but after that it is becoming a Call of Duty. It seems every year same game with boring stories...It's a chore to keep up with the AC games now. I stopped which it don't matter now if AC continues to go on. Let others lose there money on small game changes..

They need to make fun missions and get rid of the combat indicators. I don't want to play a godlike assassin in combat. Make the fighting hard for me so I have to run if a lot of people show up as a punishment for not being a good assassin. In the Revelations demo it shows that ship scene and it was great but when you played the game it was the same stuff, maybe even less in some of the missions. The only parts that were fun was the cave scene (running while the guys in the boat were tossing up explosives at you), the ship scene, and the tow parachute at the end.

I will give AC 3 a try during the Steam summer sale.

Of course it'll keep going. Today's gaming industry is all about milking the same IP's all the time and ignoring any potential new ones.

So they'll keep making AC games every year and every year keep the same ****ty control schemes? No game, I really meant to jump in the complete opposite direction I'm facing, that's totally what I intended.

I'll look the story up on wiki to see how it turns out when the games are done, thanks.

There's a lot of that in the big publishers, but there's also plenty new to go around (Defiance, Watch Dogs, Remember Me, Dishonored...I could go on but yeah)

I don't mind annualised games. So long as there is enough new content to warrant it being a full priced release. Thankfully Assassins Creed has done it year after year. AC3 was rubbish but it still had enough new content. It was the story and mission design that ruined it.

Hopefully AC4 will improve on it, it looks like it will improve story wise as the Kenway's were the best thing from AC3 and the pirate setting sounds good. The only thing i'm wary about is the new modern day character, Joe Bloggs.

STOP

They already ruined Desmonds story arc with AC3, the ending was ATROCIOUS, we are talking pre-Leviathan and Extended Cut ME3 levels of awful. AC2 Brotherhood was easily the best game of the series so far.

I just hope they don't become derivative and boring like the CoD series is starting to turn out. Superfast turnaround isn't as important as quality IMO

Since the story isn't over and AC3 wasn't the final game it's ending is fine. You get all the back story you needed and it's a perfect setup for the next one. I'd compare it to the ending of the first season of a TV show with season two coming in the fall.

I might not rush out to buy 4 like I did with the others but I still will. I'm tired of MP focused games that give SP the finger, AC3 gave me over 45 hours of SP game play and I think that's money well spent.
