Atomic Wanderer Chicken Posted April 2, 2013 Share Posted April 2, 2013 So basically Windows 8 is really Windows 7 with a new touch screen designed start menu, newer matte desktop gui, added improvements, some newer features and further streamlined kernal? What major differences are there between Windows 8 and Windows 7 internally like the kernal etc? Is Windows 8 just a minor from Windows 7 like Windows 98 compared to Window 95? Haven't you done some Google searches about the difference between Windows 7 and Windows 8? Otherwise, posting such a thing on a forum at this point comes across as troll-baiting. We learned a lot about using 5.1 for XP and how that helped developers with version checking for API compatibility. We also had the lesson reinforced when we applied the version number in the Windows Vista code as Windows 6.0-- that changing basic version numbers can cause application compatibility issues. So we decided to ship the Windows 7 code as Windows 6.1 - which is what you will see in the actual version of the product in cmd.exe or computer properties. Completly new set of APIs (WinRT), new application model (Modern), distribution method (Windows Store), that's not what I would call minor changes.If there ever was an incremental release it was Windows 7 not Windows 8. Metrosocial crowd these days - they'll eat anything and praise it, though, so the move is justified and working pretty good. Completly new set of APIs (WinRT), new application model (Modern), distribution method (Windows Store), that's not what I would call minor changes. Major, great, but not changes. These were added. Microsoft should have just made a Surface tablet with the metro interface and thats it. Microsoft should have kept the start menu and the good old desktop! Ive used Windows 8 on a desktop pc, and just could not get used to it and went back to Windows 7 just recently. Windows 8 is one of the worst operating systems microsoft ever created in history. It may be faster, but that does make it better. I also really hate the two interfaces slapped on top of each other in WIndows . For instance, when you click on the wireless icon, a metro style sidebar comes up. When you click on the user accounts in the control panel, it opens metro up. The design elements in Windows 8 are horribly inconsistant and are a mess! Some older drivers dont even work in Windows 8 as well! The login screen is the ugliest thing I have ever seen, it looks like when Windows is put in safe mode! Windows 7 is better in design and ease of use compared to Windows 8! If I had to rate Vista, 7 and 8 from 1-10, 10 being excellent and 1 being awful; Vista would be a 6/10, Windows 7 is a 9/10 and Windows 8 is a 5/10! The new metro interface was soley made for tablets, and keyboards/mice second! The whole purpose of Windows 8 was to compete in the tablet market, and that is the truth! All those examples were positive needed changes 7's superbar is great Vista was a very necessary step to 7, all be it one most people want to forget, and it was not a design flaw that killed it, it was the endless number of bugs that did it. XP, again a great change and great OS, being slow to begin with is not a mistake, the UI was fine, although the colour scheme could have been better Metro on a desktop needs sticking in the pile marked 'MS Mistakes' Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
