Contacting Mods?

Recommended Posts

Hi

Somes mods have different ways of dealing with situations, which is expected as everyone is different

But today i had reported a post and a mod dealth with it quickly and posted on the thread to keep it on track

I reported another post later and again quickly a mod came in and cleaned the thread and again left a message saying why

but then 4 mins later closed the thread

Is there a way we can contact the mods as a group to discuss this

and why do you warn a user (maybe several times) the close the thread

if the user/users do not heed the warning then ban them, closing the thread just takes away the discussion/debate form the members that are actively dicussing the topic

Closing the thread instead of banning the user spoils it for others because of another persons actions

All posts have a "report" button. When you report something, this report enters a general area that the moderators can see. We can then review the report as a group and make a decision (this is especially useful if the item that was reported is in somewhat of a grey area).

We always recommend using the report button instead of PMing a moderator when you have a concern regarding a post on the forum. If the issue is different (for example, you want to discuss a decision that was made from the moderators) then we suggest a PM.

In the army, if you misbehave, don't they make the rest of your squad suffer the punishment while you stand and watch, then you have to deal with the rest of the guys later ?

Didn't you read the small print when you signed up to the Neowin Army? :p

Thanks for that

If you warn a user and they just keep on going why are they not banned instead of closing the thread?

Somebody watched Full Metal Jacket

But seriously, Haggis, we aren't perfect and sometimes we have to do things that we feel are best at the time. Maybe later it turns out it wasn't, but we do our best. If you want to discuss it with the mod/super in question, PMing them is best. If that staffer feels that it's a broader issue that should be addressed, they will bring it up in the staff forums for discussion and possibly policy-changing if necessary. That happens fairly often :)

lol, I worked on an Army camp in the kitchens for a while, one of the squadies stole a mobile phone from a chef, they found out who stole it but still made the entire group run around the grounds at 3am for punishment

Hi

this says it all. you can't have it always your way. i bet nearly everyone already experienced a post deleted/receiving some warning and also contacted mods, where some were cooperative and others just didn't listen.

all in all i have to say neowin moderation does a good job and compared with other forums is not as strict which is a good thing.

I never at any point said Neowin mods did not do a good job, I was asking how to contact them to discuss a situation

I closed the thread after cleaning it and asking everyone to post maturely. The posts immediately after my request was another flaming, immature post. I closed the thread without giving out any warnings and because it had run it's course and most of the participants were more interested in hurling insults instead of discussing the topic with intelligence.

The best way to contact a specific Mod is either through a PM, or the report button if it is concerning a post or issue with the forum.
