+longgonebn Subscriber² Posted April 3, 2013 Subscriber² Share Posted April 3, 2013 I have Chrome 26 installed in Windows 7, and Ubuntu 12.04. This is a synced install, same scripts, extensions, settings..etc. Why are certain websites in Windows choppy and crappy, while smooth and normal on Ubuntu? +longgonebn Subscriber² Posted April 3, 2013 Author Subscriber² Share Posted April 3, 2013 AMD Drivers, the latest 13.1 on Windows. Running the open source drivers in Ubuntu. Background tasks? The same on either, I use my browser and that's about it. How would that affect the smoothness of a website anywho? Which websites, Google Plus, Feedly for example. +longgonebn Subscriber² Posted April 4, 2013 Author Subscriber² Share Posted April 4, 2013 Yes I am talking about scrolling. Not sure what else I could mean, I didn't mention videos, so not that. What about font rendering?
ViperAFK
Do you have the smooth scrolling flag enabled on one OS and not the other maybe? There's also a bug with the smooth scrolling flag on windows afiak where it doesn't work until you turn the "threaded compositing" flag to disabled. +longgonebn Subscriber² Posted April 5, 2013 Author Subscriber² Share Posted April 5, 2013 I actually had Smooth Scrolling disabled in the flags, but enabled it, same, disabled threaded compositing, same.
techbeck
I know with windows if you have the default/generic display driver, it will cause scrolling to be choppy until you install the correct one. You mentioned you are using open source drivers...any official ones from the video cards manufacturer? Or a diff set of drivers you could try? techbeck
This is not the case since Windows 7 AMD Drivers, the latest 13.1 on Windows. Running the open source drivers in Ubuntu. You mentioned you are using open source drivers...any official ones from the video cards manufacturer? Or a diff set of drivers you could try? Point being it could be a video card/driver issue. Ive seen this issue even with the correct video drivers installed and they needed an update (on Windows.) Can just be buggy drivers, or not even a video problem at all. notchinese
I cannot wrap my head around smooth scrolling. It drives me insane, I can't stand it.
+longgonebn Subscriber² Posted April 6, 2013 Author Subscriber² Share Posted April 6, 2013 I had open source drivers in Ubuntu, where scrolling was fine. I am using the latest AMD drivers in Windows, makes no difference. The part I don't understand is why is it only some sites, not all of them. Ahh, my apologies. I read your post wrong and was thinking the choppiness was in Linux. Do you have the same problems browsing the sites with IE or FF?
