Doom 4 in trouble

Why the hell would the game be in trouble if they said they scrapped an EARLY version of the game and development is still underway..?

As a guess, probably the time and money involved/lost.. usually it's the accountants who get the final say in things, and it sounds like Zenimax is getting ready to pull the plug. I can understand the financial motivation, but really hate it when a game is rushed to the shelves unfinished/buggy just to appease the accountants.

Probably because there is precedent that these kind of delays can end up in a death spiral and result in a crappy game.

I read on PCGamer (I think) that the team behind Doom scrapped the version they were working on and started fresh because they were unhappy with it.

That's just what happened before they started Rage...which imo they should have felt unhappy with it considering Fallout is so similar yet a billion times better gameplay wise.

Why not just stick to basics, they spend way, way too much time just to release a very linear and mostly uninspired game that any other dev would have made in 2 years.

I remember when ID was the giant in the industry, now they are practically nothing. Rage was a disaster, it never should have been made. Hell, I still remember the days of coming home from school to dive right into another level of Doom or Quake. ID is was never the same after Quake 3.

Because RAGE was a failure (commercially and critically) and Doom 4 was supposed to be based of the same engine. The decision to design the game / engine around consoles was disastrous, especially given id Software's legacy. Even Doom 3 attracted a lot of criticism and has aged poorly - just look at the reviews for Doom 3 BFG Edition (59 on Metacritic).

At this point id Software needs to do something radical to turn the company around and unfortunately it sounds like Doom 4 is not going to be the game to do that.

They need to do another multiplayer only quake. Create an amazing engine and focus on an arena style multiplayer like the old ones. I can't think of one exceptional multiplayer arcade shooter since the last Quake 3/Unreal tourney. Let it be modded the **** out of etc. It'd be great. Save the singleplayer games for other companys and just foucs on the engine. They have never made an excellent single player game, nows the time to give up i'd say.

the BFG edition looks far better then the orginal Doom 3 least on my system but it also added and fixed some issue

Eh with a couple of .ini file edits (which should have been in the graphical settings) the game looked ****ing beautiful. Without those edits it looked crap.

It was overall quite an optimized engine and didn't require gaming powerhouses to play on max graphics.

Better? Strange, considering that the BFG edition removed the dynamic lighting that defined the original game.

Nonsense. RAGE was a backwards step, removing dynamic lighting and dynamic skies; lowering texture quality and polygon counts; using 2D sprites; introducing major performance issues, etc. Of course it didn't require a "gaming powerhouse" to play because it was optimised for consoles and removed the most demanding features from modern games (dynamic lighting and high polygon counts).

Tbh after what happened with Doom 3, I've sort of lost a lot of faith in the Doom series and I'm hoping Doom 4 fixes this, perhaps not...
