Safe to use Windows Defender in Windows 8 Pro Still?

Question

Hi All

Question: Noticed on latest Av-test Windows Defender Didn't score so well, and labeled as baseline protection, is it still safe to use? With Internet Explorer 10 with Enhanced Protection mode on, and such

Just trying to decide on 1 Antivirus solution to stay with at this point, If not i'll convert this machine over to Avast and think be all set after that if I have to.

Yes its fine. I still don't believe any of those AV tests and go by my personal experience. I have no issues with Windows Defender in Win 8 or MSE in Win 7. Both work well enough. Keep in mind the best AV product is going to be your browsing habits. If you go to sites with viruses then that's what your going to get no matter what AV product you have.

I guess it would be sufficient for basic protection. I'm not happy with basic protection so I use a combination of ESET Smart Security 6, Spybot 2, and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

Thank you all for the Replies, I'd use Secure boot, but I don't think my HP Vision AMD A6 APU Radeon 6530D supports it...UAC is on default settings, I run as Limited user most of the time, and admin duties done from admin account. mostly browse PC news sites, only download from reputable sites, music I listen via free streaming xbox music, and buy some when I can.

Wise advice. I am more like Secure Boot + UAC + Windows Defender :D

Forgot about UAC. I hardly ever see it anymore so it never even crossed my mind.

Ive been using it since Windows 8 launched, before in Windows 7 I switched to Microsoft Security Essentials from AVG Free and I've been fine.
