Recommended Posts

kingston data traveler 8gb.. was using ubuntu to create a multiOS boot pendrive.. it installed grub4dos on the pendrive... something went wrong and the pendrive is not showing up anymore in partition softwares..

in windows the drive shows up in my computer and device manager... but you cant really do anything with it...

Delete the partition in Disk Management > Create new partition > format

Or use a partition manager like Mini Tool Partition Wizard, I use that for deleting linux partitions on flash drives

You can usually download some special software from the manufacturer's website, that will restore it to the way it was.

Unless it is mechanically fubared.

it doesnt show any partition... the corrupt mbr makes the pendrive identify itself as Generic manufacturer in linux when i use dmesg command... nothing else...

i looked transcend seems to have a recovery software... kingston.. not so much.

Then, if it shows under Windows, may want to try this (CLI freeware version):

http://firesage.com/mbrwizard.php?x=5 and wipe MBR. I've used it several times, when no formatting helps.

Or any other tool (like Mini Tool Partition Wizard above) that can wipe/rebuild MBR.

i tried using disk part under windows... the disk is not listed at all... selecting is the next step... but the prior step is incomplete... no detection in dos..

was trying to use this as well http://www.pendrivelinux.com/restoring-your-usb-key-partition/

but it doesnt show up in the drop down menu..

I have a pen drive repair executable, it repairs pen drives that are found in dev managment but not by disk managment. I use that in conjunction with the hp usb format utility to bring dead drives back to life. .

I think this is the repair utility I downloaded, the file size seems right, edit: verified it is the same one.

If the other applications do not work, I know with 100% certainty that BOOTICE will restore your MBR.
