Teen eats Ramen noodles for 13 years

Georgi Readman, from Isle of Wight, eats 30 miles of noodles every year and can't stand for other foods, such as fruits and vegetables, to touch her plate.

It's one thing to get by on ramen packets when you're short on cash ? but quite another to eat nothing but instant noodles for more than a decade.

Georgi Readman of the Isle of Wight, U.K., has an extreme aversion to fruits and vegetables and subsists on the salty, preservative-laden snack. She became hooked 13 years ago and now, at age 18, claims to eat nothing but noodle packets, which her mother buys for her by the dozen.

Readman estimates she eats 30 miles of noodles every year, and said even the thought of other foods makes her sick.

?I hate the texture of fruit and vegetables," she said. ?I can?t go to my friends' for dinner or go out for meals because I don?t want them to see me freak out if the side salad touches the stuff I eat.

?Mum goes to the supermarket and brings back as many packets as she can afford.

?I always fancy noodles and could easily eat two packets at once. I?ve even eaten them dry and uncooked before!?

Readman first tried ramen at age 5 and gradually phased out other foods.

She shows signs of selective eating disorder, a little-studied and not formally recognized condition in which picky eating persists into adulthood. Selective eaters feel they physically cannot stomach most foods, which may lead to problems in their social, work and love lives.

Recent studies have shown that picky eating may be the result of genetics.

Other picky adults may be supertasters, who are more sensitive to flavors than the average person.

Readman's doctors said she is malnourished and has the health of an 80-year old. She weighs about 98 pounds at 5'3".

She doesn't appear worried, though.

"I just love noodles!" she said.

Ahhhh, the college students gourmet meal!

Eating nothing but ramen noodles would be quite detrimental to your health, they're loaded with salt and not much better calorie wise. Better parenting would be advised. :s

Aw poor thing can't stand other foods, gee must be tough.

Poor Parenting; stop buying her noodles and she'll either starve or learn. Like I say to my Wife when our bunnies eat a new brand of food we buy them: "Trust me, they'll eat it eventually", hasn't failed yet. Used to do it with 'picky' (spoiled) children when babysitting and even to dogs with new foods.

And people are starving in this world..... gah, makes you sick.

<-Relevant :D

I love Ramen noodles once in a while - Chicken picante is my favorite. Noodle stew is the way to go - noodles with escarole/onions/peppers/chicken breast/seasoning = win. Cheap meal, and fairly quick too.

I don't think I have ever eaten Ramen noodles.

If you ever read or saw something utterly discusting that made you wanna "throw up a bit in your mouth"

then you already experienced the delicatessen of flavor that ramen noodles hold or are known for

But if you really want to try something with a bit more "flavor essence" ... there's always these

(i LOOOOOVE these)

I remember back when eating Mr. Noodles from the package was the cool snack. Where you could get like beef flavoring, so you would break up all the noodles, then open it and pour in the flavoring, and shake it up and eat it.

However, after having them cooked I could never eat them uncooked again.. mind you I haven't eaten them since I was in elementary school.

They're great for something quick and easy to make late at night.

When I was at university in 2005 the local supermarket (when I lived in the UK) sold packets of the "value" range for 9p. Being adventurous, and in an attempt to break the bank, I'd eat two packets at a time.

Badass.
