Skiver Veteran Posted April 15, 2013 Veteran Share Posted April 15, 2013 Facebook's app that takes over mobile phones has been met with a flurry of negative reviews, as people complain at just how much Facebook Zuck & Co. have put into their phones. The "Facebook Home" app became available to download on select Android devices on Friday, and at the time of writing had a rating of 2.4, with almost half of its reviewers giving it one star out of five. Many of the complaints revolve around the app making it difficult to access other phone features. "Facebook Home Take your expensive mobile device and limit it down to apps and stalking," reads a sample one-star review. "Good job FB Way to try and move mobile technology backwards." For some, Facebook Home just packs too much Facebook into a phone. The app replaces phone lockscreens with a rolling feed of pictures derived from the users' friends on the social network, and also prioritizes Facebook apps like Messenger above typical Android features. Many one-star reviewers voiced their dislike for the way the app replaces a Facebook lock screen with a constant display of personal information. Others were more critical of the way Facebook Home makes it more difficult to access other Android features. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/04/13/facebook_home_poor_reviews/

+InsaneNutter MVC Posted April 15, 2013 MVC Share Posted April 15, 2013 I don't have Facebook Home installed on my device, however Facebook Messenger recently updated. I've now started getting little circles appearing on screen, above other running apps when I get a message on Facebook... I can see this getting rather annoying, especially if other apps start notifying you both in the notification tray and with some random pop-up on screen. Luckily I found you can disable this, I can imagine Facebook home becoming rather annoying pretty fast though.
LittleNeutrino Veteran Posted April 15, 2013 Veteran Share Posted April 15, 2013 taking a look at some of these negative reviews, apparently these people do not read app descriptions prior to installing them. hagjohn, Seahorsepip and OOOOOOOO 3 Share
ajcdotme
taking a look at some of these negative reviews, apparently these people do not read app descriptions prior to installing them. No surprise here... no one bothers to read before clicking (or in this case, tapping) anymore. (if they ever did).
ATLien_0
Negative reviews will always be the ones users see and get reported on, not the positive. In fact just before reading this I was looking at all the positive reviews for it on the Google App store. There are just as many good reviews as bad ones...... George P Global Moderator Posted April 15, 2013 Global Moderator Share Posted April 15, 2013 It'll be pretty funny if this ends up a flop for them, also doesn't bode well for htc and it's first device.
spudtrooper
It'll be pretty funny if this ends up a flop for them, also doesn't bode well for htc and it's first device. What's even worse is that their concept could have been a success on Windows Phone with just a little bit of work and enhancement to the people hub.. What they're trying to ram down Android is already sort of built in from the ground up on WP8 and Facebook doesn't really seem to see the value of WP8. Yet, their trying to rip off the "people" centric design darn near 100% jakem1 1 Share

jordanspringer
I can't help but laugh. FB Home is working exactly how it was intended to. Why the backlash? What were users expecting? "My FACEBOOK phone is too FACEBOOKEY!" Oh please... MikeChipshop 1 Share

+LogicalApex MVC Posted April 15, 2013 MVC Share Posted April 15, 2013 No surprise here... no one bothers to read before clicking (or in this case, tapping) anymore. (if they ever did). They never have. Before mess like this it used to be toolbars on their computers. They would never read the install options no matter how big the notice was that a useless toolbar would get installed unless you uncheck this box. Then they would wonder why they could only see 1/10th of the web page under the crushing power of toolbar hell. Nope, reading has never been people's strong suit. I guess it is like Math... Just too hard. Sadelwo, StrikedOut and Seahorsepip 3 Share
sagum
are the developers over at facebook offices so engorged in the effect the 'office life' facebook provides that they're loosing touch with what the reality is for people who use facebook? I mean, if you're working at the facebook office and you have everything to hand, your work mates all are there of course, I'd assume you get some nice perks for yourself and family meaning they'd all be there, pretty much your life centralises around facebook. so for them, on their phone, facebook home is more then well equip for what they're wanting and are continuing to develop for. The only other group of people who I can assume are like that are young teens with low powered phones who just want contact with their facebook friends. As we know there are better ways, but they're young and naive they don't know any other.
BajiRav
My co-worker who has a SIII, installed it - we both played it for few mins and were left confused+disappointed. And by the time I had reached back to my desk - he pinged me "I uninstalled it".

SoCalRox
I have a group of close friends that are spread out and Facebook makes staying in touch very easy so I use it a lot. But the more I read about Home, the more I am sure I have no desire to let that app anywhere near my phone.

sagum
Well, from everything i've seen it makes me want to barf. Why do I want pictures from facebook taking up the entire screen? I'd be great except, we'd all have friends on there that are tagged by people. A common one is tag this person with a colour, then below that the colour says friend, sexy etc. Rather stupid and I don't want that on my phone showing up.... or even the ones that are tagged in other peoples photos of babies or groups etc. Last year I was traveling around the UK and had to use facebook's picture verification because I was logged in from IPs that I didn't usually use. I ended up without facebook because my family members were tagged in some really stupid photos or photos that were not of them, but other people and I didn't have a clue who the image was supposed to be of. ichi
I don't know why anyone other than really heavy Facebook users would ever want something like that, having photos of your contacts on your home screen all the time must get annoying really fast.
