his mom completely invaded his privacy, as well as his girlfriends privacy

ha! he blew her trust ... his girlfriend blew him

also, that "doctor" seems like a real <unt. nice to know she doesn't think minors have no right to privacy.

Yes unfortunately.

I went to see a crappy movie with a friend and the cinemas was pretty much empty. Apart from the group of youngsters who were at the back messing about. We tried to ignore it, but then when one of the girls go down to the front row and boys take turns to go down and 'stick it in'.... yeah. Pretty sure they were getting oral on the back seats too. It was a very awkward situation to be in. Eventually they left when some of the staff came in with torches.

I was happy to ignore the faffle that was going on behind us, as there is always some retards that make noises in the cinemas, but when they went down to the front to take turns.. kinda took the **** and was hard not to notice what was going on.

I think that was actually the last time I went to the cinemas too before I took my dad to see Avatar in 3D. Certainly not been there in the longest time.

Everyone has a right to privacy. That Dr Laura is one very, very mean woman. What a horrible person.

From the convention on the rights of the child (something the US agreed on, by the way):

The Convention also acknowledges that children have the right to express their opinions and to have those opinions heard and acted upon when appropriate, to be protected from abuse or exploitation, and to have their privacy protected, and it requires that their lives not be subject to excessive interference.

Which comes from the parents. Parents (in the USA) are responsible for the actions of those kids. As a parent if you have suspicions of your kids doing something wrong or immoral there is no precedent stating they cannot go through emails, phones, etc.

That convention on the rights of children is not ratified by the usa.

The United States government played an active role in the drafting of the Convention and signed it on 16 February 1995, but has not ratified it, and will not be able in the near future because the Convention forbids both death sentences and life imprisonment for children

As a father, I allow a certain amount of privacy to my daughter. I don't invade her room, I don't rifle through her papers or laptop. However, if I am concerned about her well-being, I will talk to her. If I feel she is lying to me, I will invade said privacy.

You cannot simply let your children have full reign over their lives(they are children and don't know better).

That is how children end up with guns, killing people or themselves while the parents knew nothing of the situation.

I agree. I do not go on purpose through my kids stuff but if I find them sneaking or lieing I will investigate further. Including going through emails, etc.

I really don't get all of you, probably because I don't have any kids, but hey.

My mother (= 'my parents') never ever had access to any of my stuff. Everything I had was password secured, she never even asked (and that was the case from the first day we got a computer, when I was 11, 'till my 21st now). She never saw a single one of my texts, she never looked through the letters I got and she didn't try to control my life. I believe I turned out just fine, I'm one very independent, strong individual. The strongest signal you can give your children is showing that you trust them. If you've done your job right your children either won't do bad things or they'll feel bad about it themselves and they'll turn out fine anyway.

There's also a difference between someone who's 12 and someone who's 15 or 16. Heck, you guys let kids drive at 16 (wtf?) but you'd still go through their texts, emails, letters, ... and make a drama about the occasional sexytime? Please sort out your priorities.
