Dot Matrix
There is no search on the desktop aside from the ingrained search bar in Explorer windows. Go to Start, type the name of the app you're looking for, press 'Enter'. You're done.

I can't tell if you're being a troll or serious :|He's clearly referring to the Start Screen. Put your mouse in the bottom right or top right corner to show the charms menu. Then, click on "search". From here, you can search through all your applications, settings, etc.

Atomic Wanderer Chicken
You can go to the upper right corner of the screen with your mouse, bring up the charms bar, click search, but it will not search in the files, just apps! My Solution for finding files is : open my computer, click on C:. then type in your search query in the search box there!

PUC_Snakeman
There are better ways to learn Windows 8. You might try looking at: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/how-to
bettywhite
hi, try this i think it might help. Start Search works almost exactly like Start Menu Search from Windows 7. From the desktop, just tap WINKEY (or CTRL + ESC) and start typing. The standard Search experience appears, with a search pane on the right featuring Apps, Settings, and Files entries, plus icons for each Metro-style app that also supports searching.
