Any one use Green Dot gift cards? I got one for 50 and don't want to activate it, just want to use it and throw away? Can I?

'Unlike gift cards, full use of Green Dot prepaid cards is subject to successful identify verification. Once we verify your identity, we will send you a card that is personalized with your name, allows you to make ATM withdrawals in addition to making purchases, and can be reloaded with money.'

Quick Google shows me it's a debit card. It will need to be activated as this is a requirement from both MasterCard and Visa. Also, your ID needs to be on file, just like with a bank, because of money laundering laws, and to verify you are 18 and allowed to have a MC/Visa.

Depending on the card and issuer, there may also be a requirement to be of the legal age to hold the card.

I use Green Dot. Satisfied with'em. These debit carts are meant to be permanent, however you can deactivate them any time. (They are not gift cards.)

They're refillable debit cards, complete with bank function (routing/account number, printable paper checks and ATM function). Just bring cash to the counter and they swipe your card to fill it up. You can also do direct deposit.. It's very easy to manage and well worth it, for me anyway. Top up 1000 dollars and there is no monthly 6 dollar fee, or do the popular method by making 30 purchases a month.. of 1 cent per purchase xD

I don't get it. I have tried to get a Green Dot card for a long time. They keep saying they can't verify my identity, that their national database can't verify it. Why is this? I was born and raised in Oklahoma, I am a disabled Navy veteran, I receive benefits from the VA and Social Security from my late husband. I have a military I.D., and have used the VA health system for many years, I have a social security card, have rent in my name, utilities in my name, have a drivers license, and haven't ever been outside of the United States! How could a national database not have me in it, and Green Dot, and every other pre-paid card I have applied for, will not approve me because this database they use can't verify my identity. How do I get in that database? Where do I send all of my paperwork to verify my identity? I can't understand why I wouldn't be in there? I even tried Rush Card and have sent them what they asked 5 times, and they still won't give me a card. They keep saying they can't read the info. I can read it...it takes up an 8x10 piece of paper with my various I.D.s on it. It's like I am a nobody after 60 years living in this country. If I can't be verified, the there isn't any use in living, because I am nothing. Who would treat a disabled veteran this way!?!
