ACTIONpack
Been doing some research on Sony which I'm not a really big fan of them anymore. Sony has been advertising their 4K TVs with Best Buy. Which means, the PS4 will support 4K video output. Game play will be an other issue but at least you will see watching movies and tv shows in 4K if you buy a 4k tv. spacer
How do you go from "Sony is advertising their leading edge TVs" to "The PS4 is going to support 4k!"? BajiRav, Andre S. and Stetson 3 Share

It's pretty much known both next gen consoles will support 4k. Sony has even said they will offer movie streaming in 4K. games however, not so much, at most some arcadey PSN games. Snake89
All high end games today support 4k, crysis 3, tomb raider, bioshock, etc. Watch this video and you'll find out. http://www.pcper.com...ing-and-Preview
HawkMan
The games support it, but that doesn't mean a game console will run them at anything over full HD. They'll spend the power for the graphics. there's no consumer market interest for games in 4k on a console. not enough screens, to expensive, better to use the power for better graphics. Lamp0
This has been known pretty much since they announced the PS4. It'll be able to display 4k pictures & videos, but it won't run games at 4K.
ViperAFK
That must be what the massive amount of GDDR5 vram is for.
Andre S. Veteran Posted April 25, 2013 Veteran Share Posted April 25, 2013 Premise: Sony has been advertising their 4K TVs with Best Buy. Conclusion: The PS4 will support 4K video output. That doesn't follow. The conclusion may be true, based on other evidence, but the proof presented here is completely invalid. Sony could perfectly well advertise their 4K TVs even if the PS4 didn't support 4K.

The PS4 will support 4k pictures and video. it wont play games at 4k. this, apparently, was a very hard idea for people to grasp. it would be very foolish for Sony to not support 4k in some respect. +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted April 26, 2013 Subscriber² Share Posted April 26, 2013 Considering the shelflife of these consoles it kind of has to. Gaming at 4K is not necessarry for consoles.

Those same people forget that almost every Xbox 360 and PS3 game runs BELOW 720 pixels in the height ... consoles are designed for low cost home gaming ... they are not top end PC's ... and video is a flat medium ... so it's much much easier to run through at full res. Games are a hugely different ball park ...
nMIK-3
Sony has clarified, from their February PS4 announcement that the new console will support 4K only for video playback, not for games. Its still unknown if it will support 4K gaming in the years to come over software and dev tools update.

neoadorable
Video playback and maybe upscaling for games, which won't look good. No way it's native for games. WQHD yes, but not 4K yet.

Exactly. It will be enough for media playback but considering that developers for the PS4 are targeting 1080p @30fps it's patently obvious that no graphically demanding games will be able to run at 4K. This has already been confirmed.
