Finally happy with my cooling situation

Recommended Posts

A bit ago I asked for help on my first desktop build and with the wisdoms of others I choose what I thought was best and fitting.

All has worked well since, but I was looking at better ways to cool my system off.

After doing a lot of homework, I decided to go with a Noctua NH-D14 for my CPU and an Arctic Accelero Hybrid for my GPU.

AND I MUST SAY WOW!

Great products, next to great quality/engineering.

My GPU gets about 200-300% temperature difference (even with it overclocked to 1228MHz).

On idle it drops around 24-29 celcius. Medium range load around 40-50. High range load is 50-60, 70 in stress tests.

My CPU overclocked to 4.2Ghz gets about a 100% or more temperature difference.

On idle it sits around 30-35 celcius, on load Ive seen it hit at most 60-65. Stress testing pushes it to max 70-80 celcius.

In my eyes and personal prefence these are great major improvements. Quite happy and felt like sharing my experience with others, and to see if any others are using above said products.

Together those two products were less than 200 USD.

My CPU: Intel i5-3570K @ 4.2Ghz

My GPU: EVGA GTX 680 4GB @ 1228Mhz

Only difficulty I came across was the heatsink on my RAM was really tall (I have the Corsair Vengeance), being the guy I am... I decided to take off that mainstream promo crap and I was able to fit like that.

So you have these options:

Low-profile RAM

Get a better motherboard with the DIMM slots spaced better

Take off heatsink

And no problem!

haha I read about de-lidded and even though I have done more delicate procedures; I just dont have the money right now to buy another CPU if I screw it..

Anyways I use prime95 running a "Torture Test" with all workers, using 6GB of my available RAM typically, it will get to around 70-80 around 8+ hours; then it goes down to 65-70 max lol weird huh? I just think I got a poo poo mobo, gonna upgrade that soon.

Ok man, that's cool. If you used p95, just to test stability and temps some more, I recommend 5 runs of LinX at 4GB problem size. Should be no problem @4.2 Ghz tho. Not even an issue.

I will give it a go tomorrow some time, but for now I need to enjoy my computer! Been testing it and all kinds for the past three days.

Idle temps for the CPU hit 26 Celsius!
